shuting down in FL???

Re: From AOPA

Sure having a new, flawlessly maintained and always available fleet of aircraft isn't necessary, but it's sure nice to have.

[/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, so is a 52" Plasma, but I can't afford that, so I don't have it. Why spread my finances thin for something that's "nice to have?"

[ QUOTE ]
You get what you pay for and why go cheap on your flight training when airline pilots make well above average incomes.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not gonna bet my future on airline pilots making "above average incomes" much longer. The average income keeps coming up due to inflation, but airline incomes keep coming down due to concessions. Plus, I still have to GET that airline position. I still have to repay those loans while instructing and being an FO, hardly above average incomes. If I die of starvation, get divorced because I can't help support my family or lose my medical before getting to the airlines, then it's NOT money well spent. I like to plan for contingencies like that, not assume everything will be peachy and get hired at XJT with 600/100.

Re: From AOPA

Because I set out to get the best flight training and I believe that's what I got. Fortunately for me I don't have anyone to support and if the sh*t really hit the fan I have a college degree to fall back on. Plus I certainly wouldn't have the job I have now if it weren't for me training at FlightSafety. Let me put it this way, if you can find a way to afford it, do it, if not then there are other avenues. But you really can't get a good idea of what I'm talking about in terms of quality of training unless you actually tour the campus, I highly recomend it to anyone looking for a place to do their flight training.

Re: From AOPA

If you're referring to the internship at Flight Safety, then I'd agree with you. However, my goal would be to find a job flying. That's what 90% of the people going to FSA are working towards. The internship won't hurt, but neither would an internship at any airline which can be acquired through several other training programs or (believe it or not) hard work and determination.

I toured the FSA campus back in 2001. Impressive but still too expensive for my tastes.

STOP

This is •ing rediculous. I'm so sick of reading flight school pissing matches on this board...

Get your damn ratings wherever you want. Instruct for a few hundred hours, and GUESS WHAT:

IT WON'T MATTER ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every place has it's ups and downs, but the end result is the same. You end up with little pieces of paper from the FAA.

Good lord this is getting old. If you have DIRECT experience with a flight school (i.e.- YOU WENT THERE), then answer questions about it and give your input to your heart's content. If not, then for cryin' out loud, STFU!!!!!!!!!!! because nobody wants your opinion.

a(^(@&#)$&(@# I need a beer after reading this crap.

Better yet, I just realized that I can minimize the entire silly flight school parts of the forum. I strongly urge some of you to do the same.

Re: STOP

So ESF, what are you saying?....FBOs or Academies?

Re: STOP

Oh geez, try hosting the website where people have daily pissing matches.

"Hey, you did it different than I did it, you're wrong, I'm right! Woooo!"

Rinse. Repeat.

Re: STOP!! Hammer time!!

You know Doug...The funny thing is that you don't see any of the academy types going into the other FBO type forums and pissing in their Cherrios. At least I know I don't. You would think a bunch of "professionals" would act a little more professional despite the annonimity(sp?) this board provides.

Re: STOP!! Hammer time!!

If you're talking to me....I usually keep quiet unless some academy type starts talking about how superior a pilot his training program turns out or how much better the airlines like graduates from HIS academy. Otherwise, to each his own, though I have strong feelings on the subject.

And if you're talking to me....I'm hardly anonymous, see profile on the front page and my user name.

Oh, Don... I know you love the attention, but no, I was not directly referring to you.

Re: STOP!! Hammer time!!

Damn ya'll need some gang colors and stuff. You know throw your gang signs at each other and ask.
"What set you repin homie? I'm representin Westside fo life yo!"
Then maybe hold a big rumble....But per Westside story everyone knows you need at least 5 yrs. of dance and 2 yrs. of tap to be able to fight well!

I fly good!

I think the only logical way to get your flight training is self instruction. Get your free subscription to Flight Training magazine and have at it. Who needs an instructor? Who even needs an airplane? Often times I go out to the airport and run around on the runway with scrap lumber strapped to my arms. I’ve found if I run and jump I can get airborne for about 1 second, after doing that 3600 times I can log an hour of PIC time. I’ve started going out in bad weather days so I can log instrument time too. Best of all it’s free, Faster, For Sure! And I’ve got airlines setting aside pilot positions for me.
Next month look for my ad in AOPA and Flying, I’m selling my lesson plans and home-made “wings” to prospective students.

Nah, you only need to do that 4 times per each logged hour. 1 second would be 0.1 right? Log each jump seperately and 10 0.1 flights = 1 hr PIC. Bring a friend with you and one of you wear a hood, and now each of you can log each others jumps, brining it down to 5 jumps each. Bring an instructor to run behind you and supervise, and now all 3 of you can log each jump, brining it down to approximately 4 jumps each, and all of you can log an hour of PIC. Its a proven system and is the quickest, cheapest way to the airlines.
