Generally I agree wholeheartedly, but that doesn't seem to be how things are done anymore... with reason. That went out the window years ago... and now we're left here fighting stupidity with reason, but no one want's to hear us. Probably just because it is reasonable and doesn't make for good stories. So in light of that, I'll take it when some irrationalness and stupidity is thrown back at the other side.
It's whoever can yell the loudest with the dumbest idea. The only way the TSA will change things is if the public makes them. If a incorrect stupid reason makes people angry at the TSA, again, I'll take it.

I do believe thats the whole point... At least in my understanding it is. If enough people object to going through the scanners and it backs lines up enough so that people miss their flights the airlines will be forced to give refunds. If they give enough and lose enough money the airlines will take a stand against the TSA. Then we will get something done!

But, just like when it comes to flying airplanes and why is my flight delayed for three hours for weather when it's blue skies in Salt Lake, I'm flying to Dallas but the plane's in Denver, I don't think the general public has a decent understanding about security either.

I'm just firmly in the school of thought of turn down the hyperbole, turn on the lights and let's see what's really at play here rather than run around like headless chickens giving the drama queens in Washginton DC a paper tiger to "save" us from and keep our eye off the prize.

If I decide to leave Ruth's Chris if I don't want to put on the jacket, and I threated with a fine or imprisonment? Am I forced to wear the jacket anyway?

But we aren't talking about wearing a jacket here. If an employee of Ruth's Chris did what TSA is doing, it would be either child molestation or sexual assault.

Or I guess that if I can afford it, I can charter an airplane, or drive. So if you are wealthy enough, you can avoid it. That's the American way!

The difference between the United States and Europe is the 4th amendment, and there may well be a legitimate 4th amendment search question with both these backscatter machines and the enhanced pat down procedures.

With that, I would not be surprised to see this issue make it towards the United States Supreme Court sometime soon.
 
Hopefully flying just becomes so objectionable that nobody flies commercially anymore. G W can get his win. Then the terrorists will be forced to charter a 757 into an important building.

I'll give you a big difference.

Last year I could have gone through security with a knee brace and been given the 'secondary screening". Metal detector wand waved around, beeps on the knee, quick pat of the affected area... on my way.

Today... FULL SEARCH. Including swabbing my knee brace... so on top of being the only one frisked (with tons of passengers around) I have to force my uniform pants up high enough so they can 'swab' my knee brace?? Took nearly 10 minutes to fully clear security.

It may or may not be. But the TSA has over steped their bounds and is subjecting EVERONE who flies to unresonable searches. Go ahead and spin it any other way, because you will meet strong resistance.


It may just take an "Opt out day" around the holidays, and many many people not having Thanksgiving dinner with their families for our government to get the point on this issue. The TSA has no system of checks and balances. When security at airports has turned into "we can't tell you haw these machinces work or their radiation levels because that is classified" is wrong. What are they hiding from us? It's similar to the cover up of the Rocketdyne incident in my home town where in the 50's an experimental nuclear reactor melted down and it was hidden from the pouplation for years. Do some research on it, you'll see how much it has been covered up. Just another example of how things get covered up and misconstrued.

I find this very interesting. I know the three biggest things have become public "issues" with the new AIT scanners and the possible radiation they give are 1. The effect on children, They have a smaller body size so the concentration of radiation received is much higher.
2. The effect on women's breast as they are more exposed and could possibly be at increased risk of Cancer.
3. The effect on the male testicle as they are also more exposed and are not under the protection of fat and extra skin.

Here's another one for your kids... well future kids.

For all the Males on the forums lets not forget where our sperm is made, down in or testis all hanging out and exposed... You are on a trip and go through the machine even once, but for fun we will say every day of your three or four day trip. You get home and you and your wife do the dirty and she gets pregnant. Imagine all of the mutated sperm you could have. And all it takes is one of those to fertilize your wife's egg and your baby has health problems, or worse, for the rest of their lives. Thank you TSA.

Thats actually a pretty interesting thought. But no, testing isn't needed. The TSA has declared it safe! WTF.
 
Omitting specific Names, places and dates, I know one specific individual who managed to get through security (and they had one of the full body scanners at this particular airport), with a misspelled name on their boarding pass. Plus they forgot to pull the liquids out of their carry on bag and didn't get stopped. The illusion of security at the cost of human dignity. What a pain in the junk.

One time, at band camp, I heard about someone that never takes the fluids out of their bag, brings larger than 3.4 oz containers, and more than will fit into a quart sized ziplock bag. They fly twice a week and have yet to have been detected in the last 3 years. (or so I have heard)

ha. I wasn't trying to come across like a high school girl by the way. Just commenting on how ineffective and arbitrary TSA 'safety' is.
