Ron Paul introduces: American Traveler Dignity Act

nice. The way he describes it, it may be too encompassing... but I do like it. It's not up on Thomas yet, so no text.
 
Wish he were a more articulate speaker. This comes off sounding whiny and poorly developed. Hopefully the legislation is written more clearly.

Bingo, Ive said it many times on here. He is a smart man and I like him but he will never be a powerhouse due to poor presentation.
 
The legislation is HR 6416, and is being called the American Travelers Dignity Act.

The language of the legislation is straightforward, and removes the immunity that the government currently enjoys when a federal actor (the TSA), working as an arm of the federal government, proceeds to enforce the new AIT and enhanced pat down policies. The language is as follows:

SECTION 1. NO IMMUNITY FOR CERTAIN AIRPORT SCREENING METHODS.

No law of the United States shall be construed to confer any immunity for a Federal employee or agency or any individual or entity that receives Federal funds, who subjects an individual to any physical contact (including contact with any clothing the individual is wearing), x-rays, or millimeter waves, or aids in the creation of or views a representation of any part of a individual's body covered by clothing as a condition for such individual to be in an airport or to fly in an aircraft. The preceding sentence shall apply even if the individual or the individual's parent, guardian, or any other individual gives consent.

This is something that all of us should be standing behind, as it creates the best incentive that exists in this country to force charge; the removal of government immunity on this issue, paving the way for lawsuits against the government. This will allow individuals to sue the TSA and thus make it financially untenable for the TSA to continue these policies.

It's a simple, yet bold statement that needs to be made, and I hope every single one of you call your elected legislators and urge them to support this legislation.

I'm a huge supporter of Ron Paul but I can't disagree with the above. Here's to hoping his son can be a better presenter so the average american will listen instead of write them off.
 
Wait, a libertarian is offering more legislation/laws on top of a situation we already have laws for? Isn't that the sign of a populist?

PS: I do agree with 90% of what he's saying in the video. I just gotta give old Ron crap.

I'm also a supporter of Ron Paul, but I always viewed the way he described things as very human and down to Earth. The average American could listen to him and not mentally scratch their heads. Unfortunately though, I have to agree with you when you say that because of this, many Americans would simply write him off.

My faith in congress may not be completely gone after all. He stuttered a bit a couple times in the presentation, but the message was spot-on.

Talk about some non-partisan legislation. Everyone is in agreement for the most part. Good stuff.
 
I agree that his presentation isn't always perfect (hey there have been worse in higher offices), but the message is spot on. Watch some of his news interviews, debates, and longer talks to congress...he can speak well.
 
Harry Truman wasn't a dynamic speaker either - but he was a great President. JFK was an EXCEPTIONAL speaker - probably the best of the last 50 years - but not a great President (little tangible accomplishment). Obama is not a great speaker, but can deliver a great speech sometimes (while campaigning). Point is, great speakers are entertaining while they are giving the speech but that's about it. Lincoln was not viewed as a great speaker yet wrote and delivered some amazing speeches (and they were short - the second inaugural and the Gettysburg Address - proof that long-winded oratory does not translate automatically into "great"). Keep these things in mind when judging Paul's clip - the substance (the Bill) is significantly more important than oratory or stagecraft. Learn the lesson of 2008.

Ron Paul is the smartest, bravest man in American politics. I voted for him in the primary back in 2008 (I've switched to being an independant since).


He's right, we are NOT safer. I'd rather have my liberties than be 100% safe....
