"romantic life style"

Re: \"romantic life style\"

[ QUOTE ]
Usually when I get home from a trip, I'm pretty high maintenance and end up bugging the crap out of Kristie.

She's independent so it's a little weird for her to go from 'her and the cats' to 'her, the cats and some raving fast-talking lunatic that stinks of jet exhaust, passenger cabin and de-ice fluid' at the drop of a hat four or five times per month.

Usually the first day back I try to give her space until she is used to having me around the house again and then it's back to normal the next day.

Like he said.. I go into complete independent mode when doug is gone and when he comes back, i have to switch over to loving, dependent wife, so it takes a few hours to do that....sometimes it's more difficult to do, other times it's really easy. it's not that I don't miss him a ton when he's gone, we talk on a daily basis.. just that I put up my *airs* when he's gone as a mode of *protection* in a sense since i'm all by myself, so i have to do the same thing that you pilots have to do - decompress.

Just like when doug gets home, he needs a decompress DAY in which I give him absolutely nothing to do (no honey-do lists!), so he can relax or get his own errands done, play battlefield or what not. that's what he needs...

I wouldn't worry about it too much! some women don't have the change in modes, some do.. I think it really depends on how independent they are and if they're used to taking care of themselves or having someone take care of them.

Boo-ho on that. Try coming back from 8-12 month deployments!

[/ QUOTE ]
I couldn't imagine. I'm thankful for all that do.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was just razzing you all, but it is disheartening to call back home and get "this number has been disconnected or is no longer in service", like one of our guys did when his wife upped and left.

I tried telling him that he probably dialed wrong or that the phone lines were probably not working right, but all that went to hell when he received divorce papers via certified mail a few days later.

[/ QUOTE ]and to match that, I should say that "all wives/sig others also need a DAY of decompression after taking care of the kids, house, cats, dogs for 4,5 or 6 days straight!"

Brought to you, not by a mom, but for all pilot mom's out there!

So after you all get your decompress day, give your spouse one too eh?

Not that she won't be happy to see you, but it's really nice not to be attacked with a 'to-do' list, or any real demands the second you walk in the door!

[/ QUOTE ]Isn't there really only ONE thing on that "to-do" list?

Sorry, I saw the shot, and I took it.

Oh, and I agree with MikeD. Deployments are hell on marriages let alone regular bf-gf romances.

I think the big challenging part of my side of the profession that sometimes my own home feels a little foreign at times and I'm not sure where stuff goes like dishes and such. Like I just got comfortable, got my 'must do' errands done and I'm back on the road tomorrow for another four-day trip.

I'm not going to lie, it's difficult! Especially when you're doing the same trip all month because you know what to expect already.

ATL-VPS make sure the cables are down. New jetway
VPS-ATL probably have to hold
ATL-RIC new layover hotel and semi-decent hotel coffee. Free WI-FI!

RIC-ATL Probably a gate hold again. Swap aircraft
ATL-VPS (See above)
VPS-ATL (see above). Longer turn time so I'll probably look for somewhere quiet to chill.
ATL-PHL Better ask for more fuel because even though it's VFR, there's enroute delays that time of the evening. Pretty good layover hotel near starbucks, but no time to do anything in the evening or the morning. Plus have to convince crew how to get down to the hotel pickup point.

PHL-ATL Swap aircraft
ATL-MSY Get in early, probably battle sleep deficit but going to take a huge walk, probably end up in the French Quarter for an early dinner and walk down to the lake on the way back (cool)

MSY-ATL Swap aircraft
ATL-BOS Fantastic! Gotta have the standard clam chowder
BOS-ATL Last leg of the trip, paranoia about making the 45 minute turn in ATL to commute home to PHX.

Can anyone tell that I'm ready for international flying?

What's passenger cabin smell like??? Depends on lunch??

Re: \"romantic life style\"

I can't describe it, but it's a distinct smell. Almost how I can kind of smell "Orlando".

I had heard stories of C-141 squadrons where there was over a 90% statistical probability of divorce, if you were assigned to that squadron. I think that the E-3 guys have it pretty bad, too. A friend/acquantaince of mine has been TDY/deployed as a Nav on a C-130 for almost exactly two years. The military is hell on relationships.
