RAH Q400 in BTV

Very true, but if that happened on an approach, we would be going around. If we suspected it was a GPWS fault, the plane would be grounded once we landed.

I've not had it give a ground prox warning on approach when it's happened (it happens on the RNAV 12 at PSC, and both runways at PUW for some reason). The only place I can recall getting an actual warning was going into SUN with the terrain in sight, trying to keep on the east side of the valley going in.

If they got an actual ground prox warning on this situation, you go to rating detent and try again...then buy the rest of the crew beer later.

Yeah, if I remember correctly I once got the '2500' foot call at 23,000 going from OKC to IAH. The plane was written up.......

I was coming into DFW one fine evening after a long day in the 135, and American passed 1000' dead below us at 11,000'.

"DING DING DING, LANDING GEAR."

Needless to say we all sat up really straight.

I'm not familiar with your specific enhanced GPWS, but I'm willing to bet that's a map database related thing in the first two cases you mention and not a radar altimeter-related thing.

There was a Colgan incident at BTV in the Q as well that was documented in the accident docket for flight 3407. Now this Republic incident? There's a reason I won't fly on any Q400 out of EWR.

Stickshakers and near CFITs. Now considering what's happened with Asiana at SFO and UPS at BHM, we're all prone to this kind of thing. But some carriers are a lot more prone to it for a host of different reasons............

What kind of reasons? Just curious

Yeah im going to avoid B1s as well.

1 B1 going down is a different story.

Colgan has a Q400 incident at BTV:

http://dms.ntsb.gov/pubdms/search/document.cfm?docID=312088&docketID=47271&mkey=73351

Colgan crashes Q400 in BUF to due to same reason as the BTV crew, except the BTV crew properly recovered.

Colgan loses all Qs and the Colgan name shuts down. The Qs go to Republic.

Republic has a near CFIT accident at BTV, missing by 17 feet apparently.

So it's a host of factors. Lack of training, lack of good hiring standards, lack of experience, bad decision making just to name a few.

Hello pot.....this is kettle.

Considering your background, I think I'd be a little less opinionated on these matters. I don't think 9E has the finest track record of hiring/ training standards in the industry, either. ;)

I think it has more to do with colgan pilots being just flat out bad pilots
