Republic Airways Holdings Inc. (RJET) announced today that it has reached an agreement to amend its existing Shuttle America E-Jet capacity purchase agreement (”CPA”) with United Airlines to add 50 new Embraer 76-seat E175 aircraft. The duration of each aircraft under the E-Jet CPA will be 12 years. As a part of the amendment, Shuttle and United have agreed to extend the duration of the term of the agreement for the existing 38 E170 aircraft, with new expiration dates ranging from September of 2019 through December of 2022.

Republic also reached an agreement with United to amend its Q400 CPA allowing for a wind-down schedule beginning in January 2015 and ending in September 2016. Republic Airlines currently operates 31 Q400 aircraft under the Q400 CPA. Republic has entered into a sublease with Flybe Limited, a UK airline, for 24 Q400 aircraft, with deliveries to Flybe coordinated with the removal of the aircraft from United service. The remaining Q400 aircraft will be sold, leased or returned to the lessor after removing them from United service.

“United was our first E-Jet customer, and we are excited for the opportunity to further develop our relationship with 50 new E175s. This is a testimony to the excellent work of our employees, and we look forward to continuing to provide United with safe, clean and reliable air service,” said Bryan Bedford, President, Chairman and CEO of Republic.

In conjunction with the United E-Jet CPA amendment, Republic also entered into an agreement with Embraer for the acquisition of 50 new E175 aircraft. The first new aircraft is expected to be delivered in July 2015, and deliveries will follow ratably through August 2017. The new E175s will feature recent aerodynamic enhancements, such as a new wingtip and other technical improvements designed to reduce fuel consumption and improve maintenance dispatch reliability.

hmm...I didn't see that coming

The question is: are these the options that we had already for American or are they a new order of 50 aircraft?

Oh, I liked it just fine myself...But, it was a stop-gap for United until they could get RAH caught-up with their own internal issues and get more E-170/175s in the pipeline. Flying the Q was one of the highlights of my career.

Pretty sure United can do whatever if wants with the FFD planes/contracts/scope. Any information you hear otherwise is probably not true.

I thought United was maxed out on large RJ scope with the 70 Ejets going to Mesa and Skywest?

Removing 31 Q400s makes room for 31 more E175, but yes, without any other changes UAL would be about 19 aircraft over the scope limitation. They will have to either remove other 70 seat aircraft or add a small narrow body aircraft (E190, Cseries) at mainline.

He was referring to the scope language in section one the United Pilot CBA.

I was under the impression that the Q400s were exempt from the scope since it's a turboprop. I must have misunderstood seeing it appears to be a swap.

Congrats to Republic/Shuttle America on getting these planes. UA appears to be pleased with the performance of the new E175s.

I had heard rumors about this from various people, but never put much to it. At least once they're gone, Potomac won't confuse our 200/300's with the 400 anymore.

I like the E-Jet as a passenger and if I like it, then the self-loading cargo must love it.

This is all United flying and has nothing to do with either the American/USAirways 175s or the Delta 175/145s. So its an order for an additional 50 175s with an extension of the current 38 flying at Shuttle to 2022. We never accepted the full amount of Qs and only believe they got 28 online so its a net growth of 22 airframes. BB's letter says a two year time frame for an all Ejet fleet by 2017. He doesn't get specific on the 145. Rumor is that all United flying will be getting moved to the YX cert to make S5 an all Delta cert.

They could end up parking some of the older 700s or adding some narrow bodies to mainline which increases their cap.

I've since left RAH so I'm not in the loop anymore...

Is there anymore mainline scope being released? God I hope not... I see they're replacing the Q's plus another 20 aircraft? Is this Expressjet flying?

Has BB given any hints about how they plan to staff this? Perhaps parking all the -145s?

Their stated goal is an entire 170 fleet. Obviously the Q's are going as part of the deal. I'm sure the 140 flying will be phased out accordingly.

His stated goal is an all E-jet fleet by 2017 but didn't specify about the 145's in his latest letter. The 145's have been shrunk down to just 38 flying for Delta which I believe goes for another two years. Don't remember the date. Rumors are he plans on exchanging the 145's for more Delta 170 flying so I have no idea how he will staff these.

Don't the limits increase in January 2016?

Really? I haven't heard that at all.
