PUBNAT3

Although this page seems like a wealth of information, make sure to pay attention to the front page that says:

"The data were collected between April and November of 2006."

Although relatively recent, still outdated.

Yeah. And I'd think that the attrition rate of veteran controllers is even higher than usual between now and then due to the pay cut and imposed work orders. So use it as a starting point, and then make a phone call or two.

Ah crap, I think I just confused myself.

Shoot, I do that all the time.

Hi all. This is probably too much personal info, but whatever. I never introduced myself.

My husband is a new hire (after serving 10 years in the army--as a controller for 7 and scout for 3). The VRA process is a little easier and he started applying in January...got had his FOL in May. Started OKC in July, finished at mid August. VRA guys don't have to complete the initial 5 week training.

Did anyone select their geo pref in the application?
I did.

I know it said for full consideration to select Nationwide, but with the huge pay cut with my man being a trainee and recently relocating from Ft. Rucker (where he was an ATC instructor) to Eugene Oregon, the only place I can work is here in OR. I am hoping that knowing the facility manager will help... but he said he really doesn't have any say. It's the Northwest Mountain Region HR that sets up hiring. The facility managers never even see the application, they know they are getting trainees once they get started at OKC.

Holla:)

Heh, I did, and it crashed the computer -- according to what the FAA tech support guy told me.

Actually, I didn't pick one, I picked all ten. I guess I misunderstood the part about only selecting Throughout the Nation and figured that if there were ten spots, they wanted me to fill them. Apparently is somehow through their system for a loop and whenever I would log on to try to finish my application, it just hung there for a half hour before finally kicking me off.

Long story short, after a few phone calls and someone there telling me "Do NOT put anything there, they won't even be asking for it later in the process so it won't do you any good anyway," I had to spend about three hours getting each location removed one-by-one before getting it corrected.

I didn't make the same mistake with PUBNAT4.

Anyway, while I think he was probably correct -- there wouldn't be a need for geo. preferences if we just put it down earlier in the process -- I don't think it'd count against you, either. For me, I've found that just following the instructions with the FAA seems to work best, since minor errors can sometimes result in big problems (just ask Raydon). I'm sure you're fine.

Are you sure he wasn't joking about that causing a problem? Almost everyone who filled out PUBNAT3 in the last few days had server problems. It took me 48 hours to fill mine out totally. Got it in just in time.

Unless you caused them for all of us. :p

Likewise on that one ... I had several instances waiting at least 10 minutes for ASAP to respond if it responded at all. Nightmare city - 5 and 6 went much much more smoothly though.

So I have had over a month to decide on my geo pref. states and I'm relatively still undecided...anyone in the same boat?

Friday will make it 1 month since our scores were posted. Here's hoping we will get geo prefs. by then. I can't imagine they can wait much longer if the panels are early November. In fact, I'm really surprised we haven't got the email by now, even though they're notorious for dragging things out. I was betting on last week, and now we're halfway through this week and still nothing.

Nope. I know exactly what my preferences are, however it sounds like you're in luck. we'll have at least another month...maybe two to make the decision. Great!

One of my preferences will be ZNY. I'm still waffling on the other though. I was thinking ZBW at first, but I'm not confident that they're not close to full staffed. Which has made me think of ZAU as my second choice.

I have seen two posts similar to this - can anyone confirm or deny this supposed 1.5 => 2 month more waiting on the Geo Prefs.?

I understand about the phone call saying panels in November which would seem to dispel that - just wondering. Thanks!

Why does everyone believe the lugs at the Careers line? They are notorious idiots.

Well in the case of the November panels, I believe it because he spent quite a bit of time calling around to ask people who did know what was going on. He straight up admitted he didn't but went to find the people who knew the answers. The information he gave me was very specific, so I believe him.

The last geo preferences had 3 weeks to be submitted, I believe. Maybe four weeks before panels. So on that time frame, for November panels, we could see them at the beginning of October.

I like the idea of the beginning of October, but I just don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed. If I don't expect the Geo Pref email for a couple of months, I may be pleasantly surprised if it arrives earlier.

If you think the wait for geo pref. sucks, just wait until you have to anxiously wait on the email, that determines a huge change in your life. I am about to go insane, and i try to stay away from the forums, because it makes the wait seem longer, but i can't help myself.:D

Yeah, he said that there were problems all around, but that mine were particularly bad. Who knows... maybe my enthusiasm brought down the system. Good to make an impact with the FAA so early in the game!

I think checking the forums constantly helps. At least I don't feel like I'm on an island of hopelessness all alone....more like I'm in an over-sized dentist's office waiting with bunches of other (highly-entertaining) people. Thanks for that everyone!

I know I hope we get the PEPC invites this week or next... I'm trying to not look at these boards too much during that time. This is the email that some may get, and others may not get.

Hopefully NAT3 gets some love soon.... lol :)

I'm trying not to look here too much either, but I have to keep checking to make sure the lack of a PEPC invite in my inbox is still not a bad thing :panic:

Doesn't anyone enjoy the waiting...its like slowly killing yourself with a wiffleball bat. Maybe im just one for slow and annoying torture.

Well I started a new job to tide me over until OKC.

And I got a haircut.

And I really wish I were posting something new about PUBNAT3 but oh well.
