Pubnat 5/6

That's awesome guys!! So if you haven't received the 'kiss of death' as one poster put it, you probably have an email coming!! Excellent news! Hope everyone gets their first choice. (although I know most of you would settle for anything/anywhere they send you) :) oh happy day! :)
 
Am I the only one still sweating bullets?? My ASAP still says that I am under consideration for PUBNAT 5, but I haven't received anything yet. Hoping for ZSE, but anything is WA will do....tick tock tick tock.

Nope, I'm sweating over here too. No ASAP update, no E-Mail. Somethings got to give and I'm hoping it's the E-Mail update that I get rather than the "you suck" ASAP update.

As for the living where you work thing...my husband is going to be driving at least 45 min to 2 hours to work, depending on where we live. Not for community safety reasons, but for cost of living reasons. It might be a sacrifice you have to make in order to provide the best life for your family. While it won't be easy, as everyone else is saying, get CPC and get out if you don't like the area. With all the hiring the FAA is doing, you'll have pretty ok seniority in just a few years (think mass retirements and LOTS of new hires).

Good Luck though...it's is a hard process and lots of people don't even get to where you are. Really think it through before you throw it away (which is what you will be doing if you ask for a transfer at the PEPC). :)

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm basically just diving into this with very limited knowledge, and the to the people who have been around and know the process better, thank you.
I know I am lucky to be selected after reading through this forum, my only question was should I ask about a transfer at the PEPC or not? Now I know I shouldn't chance it.
My husband has a possibility of 3 locations: San Diego (Miramar), North Carolina, or Japan. His class has slots open for San Diego and he's a pretty good student, so we're hoping for that. The only issue is that it is 3 hours away from Palmdale and trying to work out daycare and a long drive is kind of difficult since he's in the military; I'll basically be a single parent if I have to live closer to LA than San Diego, since he is a little more obligated than I would be.
SO... I was just wondering what the odds were on being able to say 'hey I'd really like to be in San Diego county instead of LA County'.

Accept Palmdale and call your HR rep every hour of every day until you get through to them. Tell them you want to change. You can ask people here and it is possible that there is someone who wants to swich. Although, there were no San Diego selections this PUBNAT, there are people who are still waiting to go to OKC from 2, and 3/4 who are SD and might want to trade. I know it is far away from your husband, but Freemont is a great place too.

If you cannot change pre-PEPC, sign your TOL and try to change after the PEPC. There will be a long wait to get into OKC and the FAA will play ball with you if there is a facility that needs you sooner. You can also brooker a trade with TOLs if you get the right HR rep.

I'm sorry if I scared you in that other thread. With Edwards there is a lot of moral support in the area for Government families and your husband might easily be able to transfer there. Also, Canyon Country and Acton really are wonderful places to raise a family if you are willing to commute.

And lastly, as much as I sudder over living there...if you do choose to turn it down, please send it my way.

Haha, thanks for all the info, I don't think I'll tell the FAA I don't want their offer, but if something happens, I'll be sure to let them know you are willing to live there:)
I am going to accept the offer if given the chance and then call HR and see what can be done. If nothing... tough noogies for me I guess for a while. My husbands uncle is retired from the FAA and said he would see if he could make any phone calls for me too.

Unfortunately as the spouse of a Marine, sometimes your career has to take a back seat to theirs, it is unfortunate, but such is the life. Good luck to you.

I would not suggest doing that at the PEPC. Like mentioned you are interviewing for the position offered to you, which is ZLA. If you don't want that position at the time of the interview you're not going to receive a TOL. Which basically means you don't get a job.
 
PEPC is the non-traditional route.

You are doing the traditional route...where you interview and perform clearances separately

I recieved a email yesterday for a interview regarding a terminal position. They told me there is no room for me at Chicago PEPC so they are sending me to a local tower. I was not part of a mass email, so there is still hope for those who have not recieved one from today. Good Luck!!

Just some info some of you may find helpful. I decided it was a good idea to visit my local ophthalmologist before the PEPC. It's a good thing I did. 20/20 in left eye. 20/25 in right eye. I called up to medical division in Des Plaines, IL and they affirmed my vision MUST be 20/20 in BOTH eyes, either naturally or corrected. They told me I saved myself about a month in time by going and doing this rather than failing the med exam, having to come back home, go to my doctor to get the corrective lenses, and fax all of it back to the FAA.

So, if you have insurance, GO get your eyes checked. I could have sworn I was 20/20 in both eyes. Had no clue otherwise, and that would have been an unpleasant suprise come 6/22

I agree 100%! I don't see anyone "pissed" just a lot of frustration. The process takes a long time, which we all understand, but when you wait so long for something...and then don't get it, it's a little frustrating. The only thing that keeps you going is that your a) haven't reached the age limit, and b) another PUBNAT is coming up.

I made the mistake of NOT going and getting my eyes checked prior to PEPC. Even if you don't have insurance, I managed to get an eye exam and trial pair of contact lenses for $100 with NO insurance whatsoever.

A years supply of Acuvue 2 contact lenses cost me $131 and some change. Not bad, considering my vision is corrected now :)

Maybe we aren't reading all of the same posts. Dunno. I apologize; I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you.
I haven't been picked this time around (again), so I'm part of the 90%. So I feel the pain, so to speak.
