I've been wearing contacts for the past 5 years but I think I will stick with glasses while on the job. I don't want a contact falling out while trying to vector 8 planes..

Talking on your sectors frequency: "Okay here's the deal, I need all flights to reduce speed to 250 knots and make a 5degree/sec turns to the left until otherwise told not to. I've lost a contact" Meanwhile the pilots are thinking which flight has dropped of the radar, and forget about finding the contact in the dungeon of an ARTCC. So yeah, glasses for me too.

:yup:

I plan on bringing a pair of glasses with me for every shift, just as a CYA.

Woohoo! I just got verbal confirmation that I was selected for an interview, but they were not allowed to tell me for which facility! They said they are "auditing" the lists and that more emails are yet to come!

I'm just waiting on an FOL now...

So by auditing the lists, there isn't any chance that those of us who have received emails will get changed is there. I hope not, I'm excited about ZHU. Any thoughts? Or are they auditing those who haven't received an email yet

Cause I have heard people have been getting switched facilities out of the blue

Hey another question for you guys n gals. I have heard that all of our reading material is no longer given to us in paper form. All "books" are now in pdf form....is this true? I'm gonna need a cheap laptop if it is.

From what I have seen and heard on here, it's always a possibility to have your facility switched at the drop of a hat. However, I wouldn't say that it happens often. Once you sign your TOL, you're still only locked into the state. On the TOL it says you may be relocated to any other facility in the same state. Hope that helps a little.

Congrats!!!!!!:nana2:

Did you call them? If so, who?:laff:

So for those of us with "poor vision", did you go contacts or glasses. I chose Tommy Hilfiger frames, they close resemble the glasses from the mission control guys in the movie Apollo 13.

I've always done glasses. Tried to wear contacts for a couple years, but just didn't like them.

question for you people with poor eyesight that have completed their medical. Do you know what the consider 20/20 vision in each eye? What i mean is, if you cant read every letter of the line they tell you, would that disqualify you? I know its a specific question but i have poor eyesight and didnt know if you need to read the whole line of letters or just a few. any input would be greately appreciated.

You don't have to be able to read the whole chart, but of the lines you can read you need to read the whole line.

The chart accommodates people who have better than 20/20 vision. All the way to 20/10 I believe. i.e. a person who can read
from 20 ft. what and average person can read at 10ft.

Edit: A-hA! 20/4 apparently!

Notice the little numbers on the right. That is the vision of each line

I went with contacts. Doc said they're better for the problems I was having anyways. Plus, I look funny with glasses.

But glasses are so SEXY!!! ;)

They tell you to bring your glasses to the PEPC if you wear contacts. They probably want to check to make sure that your backup plan is 20/20 also.

I think they tell you to bring them because they also test you without your corrective lenses(Be it contacts or glasses) So if you wear contacts you have to take them out and carry them in a case. They've probably found that it is just easier to take off a pair of glasses instead of messing with contact cases.

You'll need to read all the letters on the 20/20 line....if you can't do that it won't be considered 20/20 vision.

I've gotta say 20/4 vision is pretty insane. I can hardly read that on my monitor....let alone from 20 feet away

I hope there are no restrictions on what you have to be able to see without corrective lenses. My husband can't see the big E on the chart without his glasses. Now what happens if with your contacts you are 20/20 but with your glasses you are only 20/25? Does that matter? Do they both have to be 20/20?

I hold a Class 1 medical, and I can't see the largest letter at the top without glasses or contacts. As long as it's correctable to 20/20, you should be alright.

As far as the contacts/glasses thing, I would imagine that you should be able to use either. You'll just have to pull the contacts out when they examine your actual eye, if that's what you decide to go with.
