Pubnat 5/6

I disagree.

Get a degree in something else and keep applying for PUBNATS as long as they are coming out. A degree in anything other than aviation is going to take you farther than something that is so specialized.

Also, if you are going to CTI school, get your medical done WAY in advance, and do it every year until you graduate, because there is nothing worse than getting a CTI degree and then finding out your vision is not correctable to 20/20 or that you can't pass some other part of the medical.

I don't wear glasses but do they consider it negatively if you do wear them?

I should go get a vision test to see what my vision is...I see perfectly fine but if its not 20/20 during the medical what would happen? Make you re-take the vision examine another time?

Also did many of you guys/gals already buy plane tickets and hotel accom to Chicago? I don't think any of us yet recieved our packets to know where exactly the PEPC is held?
I notice air fare and hotel is starting to get higher. I would like to buy ahead if we know for sure where its going to be at

Alright. So I just got back from my Memorial Day weekend trip and wanted to clear up a few things.

2. It seems that Monday and Tuesday have been set aside for enroute...has anyone gotten a tower invite? If not then Wednesday-Friday are probably tower slots. If we are still waiting for tower emails (unless I missed them), we can then assume that 5/6 slotted 250-350 people. 1/3-1/2 of PUBNAT 3/4. If not, we are looking at less than 200 people. 1/4 of PUBNAT 3/4.

So here is my theory. They are using the last of their FY'09 money to fill in the desperate enroute slots. Emails are done. 5/6 was a bust. If you ask me, it will again be more than a quarter before they have panels again (ie. August or September). They might even wait until PUBNAT8/1 is tested and combine them. If they don't, PUBNAT7 will also have very few slots. If they do, the slots will be shared between 7 and 8/1.

Thanks for the insight and help!

However, i dont believe they're done sending out emails. Theres a couple people from school i keep in touch with that are CTI grads, and 1 on Stuckmic that applied through the CTI announcement and HAVE not received a PEPC invite. They scored in the WQ range. The one on Stuckmic said he was chosen but that his email will be coming on friday.

The couple from my school havent heard anything yet, but like many others they selected Terminal only and west coast states (CA, NV). According to a couple ATM's, CTI grads are chosen before an OTS people are chosen.

And even moreso, those same ATM's have told me that all the newhires for PUBNAT5/6 are going to be FY'10 anyways, not '09. Some from the PUBNAT3/4 will even be further carried over for FY'10.

For what it's worth...

I don't know about the vision thing, but we did buy the plane ticket today. Just from last night to today the ticket went up $100 on one site. My husband is staying with his best friend, so he didn't need a hotel, so I don't know about that either. But we got the ticket for just over $230 direct flight from RSW to MDW but he's going up from Thursday(6/18) to Wednesday (6/24). Which is much cheaper than flying over the weekend. But I would buy the ticket ASAP. And as for the PEPC location, it's probably at the same place of was last time. Check earlier posts, I think it's in here somewhere. It's close to ORD, I think. Good luck!!

They expect 20/20 vision or better corrected. If you wear glasses that correct your vision to 20/20 you are fine, if you wear glasses and your vision is NOT corrected to 20/20, that is where you have to worry.

There are many, many, many, other posts on this subject, you just have to look for them, lets not repeat them.

I failed vision in my right eye at the PEPC (I had 20/20 in my left eye, 20/25 in my right). I had to go get contacts (or glasses if you prefer) and then fax off a letter from the optometrist saying near vision was corrected and a copy of the receipt from my contact lens purchase.

However, I had not been to an optometrist before in my life :)

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I too had not been to an optometrist. I better go see an optometrist before I go to PEPC, don't want to back things up further. (that's what vision insurance is for! :))

I just bought my ticket to ORD - 295 on cheaptickets was 240 last week . I'm going to stay with my best friend's family so no worries on hotel.

Like mentioned earlier above, buy your tickets now, prices are going up. I was planning on staying at the Hyatt that is supposedly 2-3 blocks from the PEPC facility but the hotel is no longer available so I asked a favor from my best friend to crash at his family's home.

My advice to anyone looking for a hotel: Priceline is you friend. Just got the Four Points Sheraton O'Hare for $35.

Has anyone received an email from the PEPC coordinator about location, information, forms we must bring? I still don't want to book a hotel until I know where this thing is at, and I am hoping I haven't missed an email. Just to clarify, I am NOT talking about the PEPC date confirmation email. I have already received that. Anyone have any answers.

I haven't seen anything here, yet.

I don't think we'll be getting those till next week at the earliest.

Still a lot of speculation that more emails will be sent either tomorrow or Friday, if that is the case I can't imagine they'll be sending PEPC packets out as well. Too much work for one week.

Nothing thus far. Only information we have is where the previous Chicago PEPC was held. Many think it will be at the same facility... but who knows

Just some random information:

I have come to learn, as our predecessors did, that it takes an act of God to contact anyone at aviation careers division in OKC. I'm trying to contact Charlene Sade, I know they are busy. I'm just going to keep calling.

Or an act of Congress.

It's really hit or miss. Plus, email is your best bet. Wait a few days and if you don't get a response, try again.

Does anyone have C. S. email addy? I don't have it, and Connie Smith only gave me her phone number.

I don't believe we're supposed to be posting full names of HR personnel on the boards. Most FAA employee emails are firstname.lastname@faa.gov.
if they are a contractor, it is typically firstname.ctr.lastname@faa.gov.

First, these guys are public employees, I don't think posting their names is something that is inappropriate. Second, I don't think there is any forum rule against that, because if you do a search for any of the HR reps names in the forums, they pop up everywhere. I appreciate your concern for their privacy, but they are the public contact for careers in the FAA. Thirdly, and most importantly, I do appreciate your information. Thank you sir. Not trying to flame. :)
On a side note, if there are any FAA employees on this site, and are offended that I posted their name, PM me and I will apologize and not do it again, although there are about 30 other posts you need to address.

Again, thanks for the information man!

Sincerely,

yes they are public employees, but posting their names on a widely seen and used message board may cause unnecessary work for people that are already overburdened. If a mod sees your posts, I assume they will be replaced with initials as they have consistently been edited in other threads.

for example:

[modhat]I've just finished editing this entire thread to use the H.R. people's initials instead of full names.

Since none of these people are members of this site, let's refrain from broadcasting their full names on a public website. If someone wants to get the information somewhere else, that's their business, but just as a CYA here, please use initials.

Thank you.[/modhat]
