Pubnat 5/6

Airline tickets have become far too inexpensive.
So true. Look at Southwest. Round trip is going to be about $220 from SLC to Chicago. You might not spend that much in gas, but between hotels and the gas, and just the shear time on the road spending $220 to fly is well worth the cost.

Yeah I might end up flying. If I drove my husband could come along - take turns driving, visit the city together.. but it might not work out with his schedule.

How much would a taxi be from ORD to a hotel close to the PEPC building? And Devon Ave. doesn't seem like a big street - does anyone know if taxis run regularly on it if I wanted to catch one after the PEPC? It'd be nice if it was walking distance to a metro station, but it looks like the O'Hare station IS the closest one and you'd have to walk across/around a highway and tracks..

Most all the hotels run shuttles from the ground transportation center at Ohare. The closest metro station is the rosemont station and it is walkable. I used priceline and got the Renaissance right beside the cumberland station. I took a taxi to the PEPC, then afterward I walked to the rosemont station and took it back to my hotel and used the train to get into the city. In fact I flew in and out of Midway and used the Wisconsin bus to get to Ohare and the the train back to MDW. There is absolutely no need for a car in Chicago.

I live in the SLC area, and I got round trip tickets from SLC to ORD for $190, plus taxes. IMO, it's definitely worth it to not make the 20 hour drive. :nana2:

I'm driving in from Dallas, so I can't help you there. Your driving from SLC....that's a long one for sure. I wonder how many folks will try to stay at the Hyatt? Still waiting on the details from the PEPC coordinator to make my arrangements....No one has received that email right?

Ultamav - I'm still wtg to hear back for a date/time

That's a good price then. My friend lives out there, flights are generally around the $200 mark plus or minus $20 from Chicago when myself or friends have flown out to visit.

Couple stuck mic people have received emails today. No PEPC dates though, just traditional route invites.

No they havent gotten invites. They just got their confirmation email.

Thats why they included there HR reps initials. Tomorrow and thursday they come out. Just keep waiting! :)

Ahh...I think you may be right. I read one post that said that the thread was not for people posting confirmations of emails they got last week....they still posted in it and confused me.

I've got nothing to wait for, except the PEPC :D

... at least In Hawaii you could live on the beach, but you'll get eaten by a bear or a moose in Alaska ...

Hilarious. So when did moose become carnivores?

Does anyone know whether they use the machine to measure blood pressure or the old fashion method? Is there a set requirement on what your blood pressure needs to be?

Is anyone else (selected for enroute) waiting to hear back for their mon/tues time slot at the PEPC? I would like to get some plans in motion!

Yep... I'm still waiting. I tried calling my rep a few times today. Every time I called it went straight to voicemail... which was of course full.

They did it the old fashion way for me. I believe it cannot go over 140/100. If it does, they will retake it. They understand nerves are running hot.

Don't hold your breath. All slots are filled. Be prepared for an email stating you are going traditional route.

I have already received confirmation of my PEPC date, I am just waiting on a packet that should be emailed that gives details of where, when, why, how long, and what type of underwear to bring. They said it would be about a week. I will post any information as it comes along to me.

Alright. So I just got back from my Memorial Day weekend trip and wanted to clear up a few things.

1. If you got an email, you do not have your TOL. You are invited to interview. It is almost as good as a TOL, because you are assured to get one at the interview, but not quite.

2. It seems that Monday and Tuesday have been set aside for enroute...has anyone gotten a tower invite? If not then Wednesday-Friday are probably tower slots. If we are still waiting for tower emails (unless I missed them), we can then assume that 5/6 slotted 250-350 people. 1/3-1/2 of PUBNAT 3/4. If not, we are looking at less than 200 people. 1/4 of PUBNAT 3/4.

So here is my theory. They are using the last of their FY'09 money to fill in the desperate enroute slots. Emails are done. 5/6 was a bust. If you ask me, it will again be more than a quarter before they have panels again (ie. August or September). They might even wait until PUBNAT8/1 is tested and combine them. If they don't, PUBNAT7 will also have very few slots. If they do, the slots will be shared between 7 and 8/1.

Please, Please, Please don't give up. They're at the bottom of the barrel now, but this is only the tip of the retirement ice berg. Pre-PUBNAT people are only just starting to finish at OKC and many of them will wash out. 30 years old is the last age you can apply, which means the cut off is your 31st birthday. You don't need to be at your facility by 31, or even at OKC, you just need your TOL.

-Check ASAP once a week for new announcements. The next one is expected for the week of July 6th. A lot of us missed 7 because it was one week only during the holidays, so check it weekly.

-If you have more than 2 academic years before you turn 31, please consider going to a CTI school. If you're like my husband, you have thought so much about becoming an ATC, that you could hardly consider doing anything else with your life. Get serious, get a degree.

I disagree.

Get a degree in something else and keep applying for PUBNATS as long as they are coming out. A degree in anything other than aviation is going to take you farther than something that is so specialized.

Also, if you are going to CTI school, get your medical done WAY in advance, and do it every year until you graduate, because there is nothing worse than getting a CTI degree and then finding out your vision is not correctable to 20/20 or that you can't pass some other part of the medical.
