Pubnat 5/6

The argument, "if you don't like it, don't apply" is so illogical, its not worth refuting. Also, since you seem versed on the FAA rules of potential employment, could you enlighten me for the next PUBNAT?

Thus far, and after a year, I've gathered several things. You know someone inside to get in. You can tour the facility and make contacts. To crush the ATSAT and be quite qualified, but not selected. Pick a facility that happens to be hiring at that particular PUBNAT.

Oh by the way, if you weren't selected, I feel you. But if you were, the statement, "It sucks. Oh well." is far from appropriate.

The point is that this is an elective process. You have not been promised a job and they have no obligation to 1. give you a job. 2. Make the process fast, easy to understand, or even consistent.

There is no point in complaining because the government is not obligated to make the process fit your needs. "if you don't like it, don't apply" was basically a direct quote from the deleted thread from the person who wanted to sue the FAA because the process took so long. The response from the FAA would of course be. "You get to choose to participate in this process. You can leave at any time"

Actually I am not an applicant...my husband is. No...he was not selected.

But I have been an active participant in the selection threads for 2, 3/4 and now 5/6 and I have learned how destructive the complaining can become. It gets out of hand quickly and makes everyone feel like crap. People spend a lot of time arguing about it and it's a downer.

I have said all of these things before...but I suppose they bear repeating:

-The next PUBNAT is opening on July 6th.
-It will be valid for all panels for 1 year
-You will list your Geo-prefs on the application and will not be able to change them
-There is no way to guess where to pick
-If there is a comments section list any (maybe a couple) specific facilities where you would like to work
-Make sure to also list that you are willing to work throughout the nation, and territories (if indeed you are)
-Just in case they do let you keep applying, continue to check ASAP every Monday
-If you no someone in ATC...anyone at all. Put their name in the "person who referred you" section

-Call all the facilities that you are willing to work at in the states you picked
-Ask to speak to the ATM (Air Traffic Manager) to introduce yourself and get your name out there. Offer to send them a resume.
-Ask to visit the facilities that you really really want, visit them as many times as you can
-Work your ATMs to get the numbers for regional managers. Tell them your name...say it often, and tell them you want the job.

It might not work. But they have quite a few years of hiring left.

Now, was it speculation that there was another batch of emails going out, or was that confirmed with someone at aviation careers?
Well, several people reported they were told by people there that "emails will be going out of several weeks". Of course they were calling asking if they had been selected, etc. So maybe the people just got annoyed and told them that. As far as I know, outside of that first day no one else has received any type of selection email. I've gotta think it's less and less likely people will get offers as it goes on for this long.

I gotta agree with you WoH. I don't get on this forum much anymore because I get so tired of reading about how 'pissed' people are about the process. Get over it. You signed up, you aren't the only one who didn't get picked. I'm glad someone else feels the way I do.

Oh, and to SeanyO; I know two people on 'the inside' and I didn't get selected. It's not a guarantee apparantly.

Someone on Stuck Mic just received an invite for a Virginia Terminal position....so they are in fact sending out some more invites this week.

The thing that bothers me is that I am a veteran, not ATC, but a veteran nonetheless. I was told months ago by aviation careers that I was not eligible for VRA (it is for military controllers), but that I didn't have to do anything else and that as a veteran, I would be placed at the top of the list of my category, meaning that if I scored WQ I would be hired before all other applicants who scored WQ, and if I scored Q then I would be hired first among Q candidates but after WQ candidates.

As it turns out, no one that I saw was picked up for PA, and only a small number for NY. However, there were many people who were picked up for a state that was not on their preferences. This gives me reason to hold out hope that I may still get picked up for PA, but at the same time it frustrates me that I was not picked up for a state I didn't request, as others were.

The way I see it, I sacrificed four years of my life to go above and beyond for my country, and I feel that since I did test into the WQ area, that the country should go above and beyond for me. I know some people may disagree and see it as a kind of affirmative action, but I believe the least they can do is give me the opportunity to prove myself.

Another candidate has been selected for announcement # AAC-AMH-08-PUBNAT6-10764 for which you applied. We appreciate your interest in employment with the Federal Aviation Administration. Please continue to check the website for vacancies of interest to you.

Yeap...same across the board here too....:(

Did they tell you that you weren't selected or are you assuming? The reason I ask is because technically I was selected for pubnat 2 even though I was notified during 3/4 panels(Lousiana reconsideration) and all of my statuses were changed for the pubnats forward to the another candidate status but my pubnat 2 never changed. Now pubnat 2 is erased from asap but I would guess that your status not changing on pubnat 6 meant that you were selected for the preferences on that pubnat.

But werent you already previously hired though? Isnt this you're 2nd time going through? You dont think any of that has to do with this?

I don't know. None of us know what it is that they see when they are at the selection panels. I would assume that if they saw that I was previously employed they would definitely skip me (thinking that I already screwed up the first time). But, if they don't see that, maybe I would be let through to do the background check and all.

All speculation... I, of course, don't really know.

As far as if I was selected or not, I am just assuming since I haven't heard anything.

Yeah i could definitely understand that.

Well heres to us hopefully being picked up, someway or another..Gotta stay positive. Perseverance pays off! It's the waiting that causes the insanity!:panic:

I just have a question to anyone more knowledgeable then myself (i.e. ANYONE reading this)... and maybe this is the wrong thread, but I don't know where else I should ask.
Anyway.

I am going to the PEPC in Chicago on June 22, and was selected for ZLA apparently, from my choices of San Diego County, Orange County, LA COunty, and North Carolina.

My husband is in the Marine Corps and will (hopefully) be stationed in San Diego. From the responses I've gotten about ZLA (Palmdale)... this is not somewhere I really want to raise my children...SO...the question:

Do I tell them at Chicago that I don't want ZLA? What happens? Do I get bumped to the back of the application line? Do they give me another choice of areas? Do they say 'thanks for playing bye-bye'?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you want a job at all I would suggest you do not turn down any offer, you don't have to live in the same neighborhood that your facility is in.

I read a post on here from a while back that someone went to the PEPC and made an attempt to haggle for a new facility. He was promptly escorted out of the building.

/Don't know if that is 100% true, but I do remember reading it. Personally, I would make the sacrifices of a not-so-nice neighborhood for a while and then get out of the bad area of town. Don't let a post about how grimy the facility may or may not be scare you. Go check it out for yourself if you can, and then make your decision based upon that.

From my understanding, if you decline your TOL, you're escorted out and that 's it. Are you even remotely willing to work there? If so, I'd sign the TOL, and then try to get it changed. You can always decline it later.

There is a chance they'll tell you buh bye. People have turned down offers because it wasn't the facility they really wanted, and they've never received anything else. It's def. dangerous to deny what they offer you. On the other hand some people have turned down a facility they didn't want, and then ended up getting another offer for something they did want but I wouldn't chance it, especially since it seems hiring is pretty much at a crawl right now. Some people have succesfully gotten new facilities, but I wouldn't say it's the norm. The FAA freely moves people around at their own discretion but they don't do much for people who just don't want to be somewhere. I mean it might be worth asking during the PEPC, but I wouldn't expect for them to really do anything. I suppose you could be like oh I really don't want ZLA during your interview, and they may decide to not move you forward in the process any further.

I think it's a gamble personally. Take what they give you, and you can deal with a transfer later if that's what you really want.

Here is an idea. Take the offer. Try to make it to CPC. If you do, buy a house in Santa Clarita and raise your kids there.

OR

Refuse the offer and join the rest of us poor bastards who have to sit around and read these forums with that sick feeling in your stomach every god damn day of the week.

There was a guy at my pepc that requested a transfer in front of the whole group. He was told no. Absolutely not. He was there to interview for the job offered to him. I actually felt bad for the guy. However, only 2 in 100 people that apply get an offer. Take the job. Get CPC. Then move on. I didn't have a single Instructor at the academy stay in one place there entire career.
