The argument, "if you don't like it, don't apply" is so illogical, its not worth refuting. Also, since you seem versed on the FAA rules of potential employment, could you enlighten me for the next PUBNAT?
Thus far, and after a year, I've gathered several things. You know someone inside to get in. You can tour the facility and make contacts. To crush the ATSAT and be quite qualified, but not selected. Pick a facility that happens to be hiring at that particular PUBNAT.
Oh by the way, if you weren't selected, I feel you. But if you were, the statement, "It sucks. Oh well." is far from appropriate.
The point is that this is an elective process. You have not been promised a job and they have no obligation to 1. give you a job. 2. Make the process fast, easy to understand, or even consistent.
There is no point in complaining because the government is not obligated to make the process fit your needs. "if you don't like it, don't apply" was basically a direct quote from the deleted thread from the person who wanted to sue the FAA because the process took so long. The response from the FAA would of course be. "You get to choose to participate in this process. You can leave at any time"
Actually I am not an applicant...my husband is. No...he was not selected.
But I have been an active participant in the selection threads for 2, 3/4 and now 5/6 and I have learned how destructive the complaining can become. It gets out of hand quickly and makes everyone feel like crap. People spend a lot of time arguing about it and it's a downer.
I have said all of these things before...but I suppose they bear repeating:
-The next PUBNAT is opening on July 6th.
-It will be valid for all panels for 1 year
-You will list your Geo-prefs on the application and will not be able to change them
-There is no way to guess where to pick
-If there is a comments section list any (maybe a couple) specific facilities where you would like to work
-Make sure to also list that you are willing to work throughout the nation, and territories (if indeed you are)
-Just in case they do let you keep applying, continue to check ASAP every Monday
-If you no someone in ATC...anyone at all. Put their name in the "person who referred you" section
-Call all the facilities that you are willing to work at in the states you picked
-Ask to speak to the ATM (Air Traffic Manager) to introduce yourself and get your name out there. Offer to send them a resume.
-Ask to visit the facilities that you really really want, visit them as many times as you can
-Work your ATMs to get the numbers for regional managers. Tell them your name...say it often, and tell them you want the job.
It might not work. But they have quite a few years of hiring left.
