Probably (hopefully for me) a lot, you know, since the test is requirement and all....

Yeah. I agree with her. Obviously, I'm hoping the test score carries a lot of weight. I figure since the requirements are the test and work/education, that both play pretty big roles. I mean, I could be wrong and everything, I'm just crossing my fingers.

When I visited ZTL the guy asked me about my AT-SAT score and mentioned AT-SAT score a lot. He seemed happy about 87.9, though. However, I think they have changed the way they select a lot. He was a contractor now but was involved in the selection process before he retired. He didn't seem to know a lot about how people are selected now. I really don't think he understood what I meant when I said that my announcement was in the referral list process.

I didn't really want to ask any further because I didn't want to offend him. There were other things that made me think that the selection proceess has really changed as welll. He kept telling me that if you really want ZTL then you should hold out for it and turn down other offers. I don't know about everyone else but I'm taking an offer wherever it is if I'm fortunate enough to get one.

I also spoke with a guy at A80 and he asked me what my AT-SAT score was as well. He said, "That should be enough" but I don't think he has ever been part of the selection process. He didn't understand what I meant when I mentioned the referral list either. I think he thought that I had just applied. He did say to avoid A80 if you could but I'm up for the challenge if they will have me.

I'm hoping work experience plays a big part. I have a degree and I've been working since I was 14...I'm 25 now. Now, of course the job I had at 14 wasn't hard but it was a real job and I wasn't working for a relative or anything :)

I'm definitely taking whatever they offer me. Ideally, yeah, I get what I want, but I'm young and have the option to relocate prtty easily.

How important is it to have talked to ATMs in the states that you've picked? I've gone through a lot of posts that pretty much say it's hard to get hired unless you do this. Just wondering how important it is

We all for some reason believe that the test is king. I'm still not entirely sure why we believe that, other than that other people on here have told us that. I have noticed one thing though, that I find hilarious:

Everyone who scored 95-100 is totally sure that the test is the only thing that matters, and that they definitely care about your score.

Everyone who scored 85-90 is totally sure that other stuff must matter and that even if it IS just the test, all they care about is that you got WQ.

I have noticed the same thing lol... although, I as well hope that the AT-SAT is key :D

And I, as well, hope that my education and work history will complement my satisfactory score :)
haha.. well, my uncle called me up again yesterday and said again that they were meeting today (the 27th) and that I should hear something from his boss (a Hub Director) within a week :rawk::rawk:

I'm assuming this means that you specifically should hear something within a week as opposed to everyone. Correct?

See that's why I worry. I don't have any favors to call in, because I don't know a single person in this business. From listening to posts on here, it almost seems like it's more about who you know rather than...well anything.

Yeah. I mean I got extremely lucky in that respect. A friend's dad who works at the facility I want had me apply. A guy I work with worked there for 20+ years and still knows the right people. My roommates uncle used to be a high level manager (I believe regional manager) and retired last year to be a private pilot, so he still knows people at the high levels. Some of the guys who work at the facility are bikers and come into my bar fairly regularly, so I've gotten to know them and they brought my name up to various people. I mean, it's all luck for me. I hope it works, but it's certainly not a guarantee

That's the case with most jobs. It really does help to know someone to get a job. I've got a little bit of an in, so I'm hoping it helps me out.

Recently I was actually thinking back recently about all the jobs I've had in my life. Now I never had any real well paying or exciting positions, but all but one job I got I got because I knew someone. The person I knew either hired me directly or I had a friend who worked there a put in a good word. In a lot of cases word of mouth from current employees is a good way to find new workers. In fact my last company offered a $5,000 referral bonus if you referred someone who ended up getting hired. Apparently in their years of experience they discovered that referrals were almost always the most effective employees.

Well it kind of makes sense in a way. Would you feel comfortable referring someone you didn't think would be a good employee? I'm not putting my name on the line for someone who isn't a hard worker or is an idiot.

I knew a 20-year vet at BNA and got a glowing recommendation from him to the BNA ATM. And I got SUS. With an 87.2 AT-SAT.

It's a craps shoot unless you know those doing the panel selection AND those in the FAA HR department collectively.

So our futures are pretty much being decided...right now.

I wouldn't think about it like that. You know, reading these boards will drive you crazy unless you know how to read everything with a grain of salt. Think about a backup. I'm going to go back to school and do the CTI route if this doesn't work out next month. I've already submitted the application and had my transcripts sent, etc...

Keep in mind as well that the people on this forum and similar forums are hardcore...there aren't many people here considering the pool of applicants. The people on here are really determined and really want the job as opposed to other people who may have just been applying as they applied for every other job they could find available.

Clearly the returning to school option isn't what I want to do since I would be saying goodbye to my savings and I'd have to rent two apartments now (My wife still has a year of grad school left) but I think I finally know what I want to do. That is the one thing I can thank Hertz for...my friends & I laugh a lot about this. We really used to think a lot more about money before we started working at Hertz. Now, in our post-Hertz life, we've decided that money isn't nearly as important as we thought it was. Towards the end (I quit earlier this month) I kept thinking about Tom in Office Space saying "Do you know that there are people in this world that don't have to put up with this ...." whenever I was in my office.

Many of us had company car priviledges and I think most of us at the end were at the point where we were talking about how walking isn't so bad and it would promote good health.

Either way, if you can't tell already, I strongly recommend to avoid working at Hertz & Enterprise. They specifically target the recent college grad because they are too naive to know any better. There are companies out there that will actually treat you with respect, pay you a decent salary, and give you challenging (yet realistic) goals.

That's why I won't check ASAP until poeple start getting their TOL's Id rather find out I didn't make it when everyone else is getting offers instead of finding out and losing all hope

Yeah. I swearing off ASAP until about a week after the boards blow up. Otherwise I'd be checking it a couple times a day for the next month and just generally going crazy.
