PSA Street Captains?

For God's sake, wherever you decide to go, or attempt to go, when you talk to a recruiter do your freaking homework. I've been helping this one guy, and he met a recruiter who COULD have scheduled his interview immediately. When he was asked a very obvious and common question about the company, he didn't know the answer. I had dinner with the recruiter last night, and he won't get a fast track to an interview now, because (to quote him) "You have to be hungry and want it, and if you want it bad enough, you will know everything about the company."

I'm pretty disgruntled at the guy, given the number of times he has called me to request assistance and a letter, etc. He dropped my name to the recruiter, then looked unprepared. The recruiter said to me, "What's up with your guy? Do you really recommend him as unprepared as he is?"

Disgruntled is generous, now that I think about it.
I need to send this to a friend. He doesn't believe me when I tell him things like you should know everywhere they fly, what they fly, their contract, where the company is going, what it's culture is, etc. Before you apply.

With much of what I've seen recently he probably felt entitled to the job. Know something about the company??? Seriously??? You do know he is a pilot and is only paid to move sticks, right??

I just don't get it. I really don't.

What a waste. A story like this is frustrating to those of us who are hungry.

It's frustrating to me too. It makes it harder for me to help other guys if someone I recommend is unprepared. I can't really go to bat for the guy again because he has made a bad first impression, and those are hard to overcome.

I'm sure @Derg and others have had this happen before too. Don't be that guy!

Curious, what kind of question would they ask that a pilot potential applicant did not know? There are some things that are really company specific, like contract/work related. If it's a really basic question, like what fleet types do we have, or where our HQs are, those are simply enough. I'm just curious what the question was.

"What are the 5 core values of JetBlue?"

The sad thing is, he had JUST been handed a flier that had the 5 values printed on it.

What's the upgrade time on the 747 at JetBlue? ;)

What the hell is wrong with people. I had a story to go with all 5, let me guess he didn't even read Blue Streak.

No. I'm just tired of hitting the reset button and moving around the country.
I know that feeling, I missed a lot of good opportunities because of that. Two times I could have interviewed at Compass. The first time there was zero movement at Compass and I didn't believe in the flow. If I would have gone I would be at Delta by the end of this year. The second time was a little over a year ago, and I kept telling myself I couldn't risk not upgrading, well I would have upgrade in under a year. I am very happy where I am right now, and know I will be at my final goal here soon, but I could have saved myself a ton of heart ache if I would've taken advantage of opportunities given to me.

So much bitterness anger and good god the "lucky" word without a crap-ton of qualifiers is a short cut to understanding.

There are a lot of guys that made the jump to Delta without a significant amount of PIC time, or any at all.

But you're leaving out a lot of underlying work performed on a number of things to be awarded the opportunity to interview.

And the skill to succeed during it.

Aye yi yi...
