PSA New Hire FO Classes Suspended

The last of the March 2nd class (the last straight 200 class prior to changing things up) just finished Initial Sim and are waiting on 7/9 differences/sims. It appears the training department is finally getting caught up from the wave. For people in doubt due to the growing pains that have been advertised, the training department is top notch as far as instruction and staff goes. EVERYONE in the training department wants to get you through and will do everything in there power to help a motivated person with the right attitude and motivation complete training. That being said they also are not shy to cut there losses and release individuals with bad attitudes or lack of motivation. The headaches from training delays are still lingering around trying to get the guys and girls from earlier this year on the line, but from what I can tell has been gotten under control and things are flowing much smoother.

Line bidding is pretty well integrated into the contract there. It would take some pretty heavy duty LOAs to get PBS running, so if it happens it will be with ALPA's blessing only.

And I'm not sure how they would still do SAP if they went to a PBS style bidding system... So I'm sure it will take a lot to get the pilot group on board with it. If it even happens. Lots of rumors fly around the crew room. While this one came from a credible source, there really is no telling and a lot can change between now and next year.

You could SAP after PBS, but it wouldn't work as well. PBS tends to generate less open time than line bidding does. The lower staffing requirements are the biggest reason companies are interested in going to some kind of PBS system. How good it is for the pilots generally depends on who controls the rule set (mostly the buffers) and how knowledgeable you are with your bidding skillz. PBS will *attempt* to get you exactly what you want, so if the system works as it should (and you have some seniority so you can actually hold what you want) there shouldn't be any reason to SAP to "improve" your schedule. Of course if you don't get what you want out of PBS SAP would help, but with less open time (in theory) there wouldn't be as many ways to improve things.

CVG base is not happening, PBS will not happen, iPads actually is happening but its a 6 month phase in program and we will still carry paper during the phase in period. SSP has a long way to go before anything is ironed out on that, so don't hold your breath. CCP/Reserve Grid decision is going to take 6-9 months and the lawyers haven't filed their briefs yet. I think that pretty much covers all the misinformation I read in this thread. I probably won't read this site again for another 6 months, it will be interesting to see what rumors swirl in the meantime. Carry on.

Yea, just like every base rumor, you hear everyone talking about it for awhile then everyone says it's not happening (what I've been hearing mostly over the past couple trips I've done). Now the rumor mill has fired up about MIA as a base. Honestly, like I said before... I could care less until they "officially" announce it.

"I screwed up my bid" is what most people mean when they get awarded something they didn't want.

And, well, someone has to work Christmas.

Nope. 5 CN standups worth 5 hours each and a 19 hour CN 4 day that kept me from 2 25+ hour 4 days has nothing to do with how I bid.

I just happened to not have bid the coverage days. Woops I guess?

If they were PNs, sure you're right. But 65% bidding in base with that many CN days is just absolute crap.

Right, sorry to channel Kelvin.

Para. (2) is that if you build garbage pairings - like SDOs - you're going to have garbage lines, and it doesn't matter what you do as a junior lineholder if the trips that you can select from are junk.

Tell that to whoever builds Denver pairings.

30% of pairings are standups and 53% are 4 days.

But even the RSR manipulates those numbers by not doing the full percentages.

666 pairings, 194 standups 356 4 days.

Every survey done in Denver for the past 2 years has ended up with the following conclusion: people want locals, 2days and 3days.

And this is what we get.

This whole "way we've always done it" crap is getting old.

Here's the new thing going around PSA. Think long and hard before coming here and effectively killing your shot at 1/3 of the remaining legacies. We're up to 1300 on the list.

That's a joke, right???
No. It's really not. The joke is PSA and AMR want to increase it from 4/month (as listed above) to 5/month with a bunch of other givebacks for that one extra. Then pat themselves on the back for their good job staffing.

Let me be clear, the last person to benefit from upgraded from additional planes is on property or close. If you come now not as a street captain, you're going to be an FO for a long time and NO ONE has been hired outside of their SSP order. Again, think hard.
