welcometo the pro helo forum!

I guess you qualify, youve read something about them. IM bored at skhool.

I live right next to the EC-135 that is coincidently co-based at my work.:)

No...I don't mind at all.

Whatever... you qualify if you've ever even seen a helicopter!

Ive been in one of the only V22s on display (if you call that a helicoptor) Its sad to see how the just leave them out there to rot.

Ive been on a Helo ride up around Niagra Falls, that was fun, Im planning on going up on a few when I work at my FBO.

So are you in the guard? What happened with the AFAST?

Yes, I'm in the Guard now. I took the AFAST while deployed believe it or not. 25th INF DIV/Diamond Head was our main aviation asset. I was able to do all of the flight physical as well, with the exception of the audiology. No big deal there.

I've got to have vision correction... This is no big deal to me; it just equates to an additional step in the process.

I've spent the last six months or so getting my ducks in a row. All the OMPF junk, and packet items.

I would prefer to fly helos for the Guard and be based here at home(obviously), but Guard aviation can be very political. One or two slots for the whole year. It's hard to keep realistic expectations about it all.

Good luck... sounds like you are persistant enough. Keep beating down them doors.

Alright, I'm in the game. Thanks for the p/m invitation Chinookdriver.
What I fly:
UH-60s - (2+30 Fuel @ 135 TAS Cruise and 14500 LBS GWT)
Louisiana Army National Guard - Commisioned guy
Also FW COM MEL and SEL
Looking forward to obtaining my CFI, MEI, and the CFII.

Have you guys checked this website yet? Brian Hudson has done his homework on finding out about the helo industry.
http://brian.hudson.home.mchsi.com/

Many of the guys in my unit are also offshore pilots and I can ask them questions about their companies (e.g. Air Logistics, PHI, ERA (which now belongs to another Co., Panther Aviation, El Paso Helicopters, etc.)

That's an awesome website! I've been fiddling around with the idea of doing some offshore flying when I get out. Any idea what the job satisfaction is for those guys?

What I know...
Their starting pay is usually above 45,000.
They work either 7 days on/7 off, or 14/14. Some may work every day if they live close enough to their base. There are pilots that commute from as far as AR,TX,AL,FL,GA. Usually, the company provides quarters. The oil rigs have cooks so a good bit of this pilots eat for free. Benefits vary per company, but I hear they are pretty good. I know some companies have jumpseat agreements (I forgot the term) with some airlines.
