I was away from my computer for a week and came back to see the Pro Course has gone up another $2000. That's $4000 since April. I wish I had put a deposit back in June when I visited so I would get the old price. Oh well!!:whatever:

Dang... see what happens when schools get a flashy new website! :sarcasm:

Anyway, even at $36K they are still competitive with the other 3 programs I am tracking (bet the other programs went up too but of course they won't be nice enough to post such an update). Now it's time to adjust my spreadhseet again due to rising prices... :(

PS- At least they are nice enough and honest enough to keep their website up-to-date and to disclose the prices of their program. Most other schools seem to want to keep the cost of attending a big secret or they are misleading by having outdated figures on their site. So I give Kudos to ATP and Aviator for advertising their prices and keeping their sites accurate. Other programs should learn from this. :insane:

Or either the total cost of the program advertised is $25,000 but once you call them up you find out there is a $15,000 fuel surcharge bringing the total cost up to 40 grand.

Wow! $36,000 - When I was looking at flight schools about 3 years ago, Ari-Ben was $23,000 and ATP was $32,000. It's amazing how fuel has increased the price of both programs.

Today ATP costs $45,000 so Aviator is still 9k cheaper. It's not just the Aviator that has been putting prices up. Lets see if I can explain why? I'd say there are three good reasons why:-

Reason 1 - Marketing

Aviator is just a cheap downmarket copy of ATP and Aviator, management knows it! Aviator, attracts dirt poor guys who are concerned about cost more than ATP guys. Mike Cohen, has one basic business strategy. Do what ATP, does but do it cheaper. Whether Aviator provides better value is another question altogether; but Mike, knows ATP, is the main rival in this end of the market and he aims to seem to be that little bit cheaper. So, ATP, put up their prices, Mike puts up his, simple.

Reason 2 - Increased demand

Times are good right now in flight training and for some reason Mike, has no shortage of students. If ATP put up there prices and Mike left his where they were, guys would flood to the Aviator and there would be just too many guys to handle. Put up the prices, manage the demand and make more profit.

Reason 3 - Greed

Aviator, is still 9k cheaper than ATP so nothing has changed right? Wrong! Aviator, no longer offers the value it used to do. Let's do the math to prove it!

Old Aviator price 23k vs old ATP price 32k - Aviator costs 28% less

New Aviator price 36k vs New ATP price 45k - Aviator costs 20% less

So there we have it people, Aviator, is now only 20% cheaper when it used to be 28% less. Mike likes to say Aviator, offers the "best bang for the buck in the business." That's his slogan. Now, I say ATP offers the most for your money and Mike has gotten greedy. ATP offers so much more and with the reduced price gap you may want to think long about who offers the best value training!

And no, I am not ATP management! And don't give me any BS about gas prices, there in freefall right now. Here's the proof:-

In actual costs it is still $9000 cheaper, but that $9k represents less of a percentage of $36k than it does $23k.

Here is what ATP is offering for the price:-

Like I say, a little bit more than Aviator is including.

Still...that $44k is utterly ridicoulus and all based on greed. Their multi hourly rate is outragous. ATP was my first choice now I'm going to Aviatior. Their quality of training isn't in question for me the "juice just isn't worth the squeeze." More especially with first year pay. At $35-45k I just might be able to eat and not live in my car with a monthly loan payment at a variable rate. A note for probably $55-60k for ATP and rent & living and eating while in training and having to pay that back as a CFI and first year FO forget about it!!!

I knew that the $35k was more of less a marketing trick. I knew about price of books and cost of checkrides not included in price of admission. Mary told me when I spoke with her the first time over the phone. If she mentioned a $1500.00 fuel charge it escapes me.With the price of oil dropping steadily will they drop the surcharge?Or am I (crazy)?

I say spend $80 for online bartending course and go to Vegas or the Keys to be a professional bartender. It'll save you the hassle.

Gonzo is right to point out the hidden costs of Aviator and buying cheap can cost you big style. At least with ATP, you know how long it will take to get done. By the time the ATP, guy is off to a regional to build seniority for upgrade, the Aviator guy is sitting on his a$$ trying to get his MEI. Put a price on that.

Sounds like you're running on a tight budget there Jenius. If you're relying on things running smooth at the Aviator, to stay on budget then I'd suggest saving/borrowing some more.
