Oh by the way most of the "points programs" are on to pilots now and will no longer let you collect points for your stay, since the company paid for it.

Which is totally incongruous, since now my company pays for it (non-airline) and I get the points

The Air Force makes me pay w/ a government CC and then reimberse me, but I get to keep the points. I've got about a month of free stays saved up.

I've noticed that this bias is only targetted towards flight crews.

Probably came from a labor vs. mgt. struggle.

LOL remember before the Visa's came out, we had the AMEX government card. There are alot of places out there that dont accept AMEX. It is definetely much easier using the visa

Figures...the Marine Corps is so darmn cheap that they made us pay with the Government CC and they kept the points...

The rule changed Jan 1, 2003 and I belive it was for all the services. I don't see how they'd know if you were collecting points anyways.

We have some guys that try to get B of A to cancel their card so they can use there own so they can get airline miles, rebates or whatever deal their personal cards offer. B of A is HORRIBLE if you have a dispute on the Gov't card.

I saw a NetJets crew in the St. Pete Hilton this morning having breakfast. Its funny to see pilots wear their ID badges around their neck while eating in a restaurant.

We get to keep all of our points and miles... I currently have about 650,000 Marriott points and about 75,000 AA Miles...

We typically stay at the same hotels as our executives do... Haven't seen the inside of a Holiday Inn in over 7 years, since my Charter days (Thank God!)...

You sure? I bet if other groups had super low negotiated rates, they wouldn't be able to earn points either. I certainly don't earn points on any of my Priceline stays.

In regards to the hotels...
I flew from Sydney to Adelaide last Wednesday night on the red-eye, and upon arrival at 2230hrs local, i got to jump into the cockpit of the QF 734.
One of the questions i asked the Captain (very young, 32)
was where they were being put up for the night.
They stayed at the Hyatt....thats the best Hotel in Adelaide. I dont eman one of, i mean the best.
So there ya go, QF still gives the crews good hotels!

There are other groups that have negotiated low rates but they get points. The only group that doesn't (as a rule) is Airline Flight Crews.

It used to be that way for all government employees, civilian or military. I know that civilians have been able to use their points and miles as of 2003. I don't know if they put that in for the military yet.

I think they found out that it was more costly to try to figure out how to get people free nights or flights than it was to just give them to their employees!

LOL you know what I mean. The corporate world is SO FAR superior to airlines on that score it's not funny.

I think hotels and other services mistreat airline employees just because they know they can.

A corporate crew actually has quite a bit of say in to which hotels you go to. Indeed, even which airports.

Airline pilots can complain to the hotel committee but it takes A LOT of complaints to change from a cheap hotel to one more expensive.

Doug I guess getting walked you go from the Plaza to the rat motel around the corner..haha. I know airlines block "x "amount of rooms a night. That way one should always be available. they pay a flat rate every month regardless of how many times its actually used. Some hotels block whole floors that are just for Flight Crews.

British Airways crews in and out of Moscow don't even get a layover, they get a in/ 1 hour turn/ out on all 3 daily flights!!

It is the ONLY foreign destination that applies to. The BA crew I was talking to about it said that the Airline Crew Visas aren't accepted in Moscow, but they are in St.Peterburg!!!! Go figure!!!!

Still that crew was pretty cool, the pilot let me step up to the cockpit (767) when we got back to Heathrow.

Apparently in order to avoid too many crews missing out on layovers, they scheduled a 767, A320 and 757 for the daily flights.
