Pilot\'s hotels

When delta, or any other airline sends their pilots on layovers, do they always stay in 5 class hotels?

The reason I ask is because I had my prom tonight (well, not mine, an upperclassmen asked me and I went), and it was at the Park Plaza hotel in Boston...real nice and fancy. I saw a lot of pilots, and spoke to two briefly. They said they were from Delta

How much do the pilots have to pay for their stay? Does their airline cover them fully?

And Doug..have you ever stayed at the Park Plaza hotel in Boston after a layover?

Hmmmm what were you doing at a hotel after prom? Back in the day, after my prom, I was up to no good at the hotel.

The prom was at the hotel, in a function hall.

my aviator is a girl whom I went to school with, she landed a record deal and is bascially famous. all over mtv..

Haha....my bad. She's a good lookin aviator though. I'd fly with her any day!

I would love to fly with her, I haven't seen her in about 2 years..shes only 13 though. Her single is currently number 2 in sales, her music video number 15 on yahoo music..and this is a girl whom recieved my toys and clothes when we were kids because her parents income wasn't that great and now shes making the big bucks as a singer..check her site out: www.jojoonline.com

Ohhh JC1188...the little picture of your friend that appears under your name. Yeah, that's an "avatar" not an "aviator", but hey more power to her if she is flying at such a young age.

Whenever I fly, I hear a lot of pilots saying things about their stay in a Marriott, which isn't five stars, but a nice place.

Well, I'm not sure what a "5 class" hotel is, but the places the crews are put up are usually decent places. The unions see to that, if it were up to the company we'd stay at Motel 6s and Super 8s right by the airport every night (not that there's anything wrong with Motel 6s and Super 8s, but when you live in hotels, you want something a little nicer). Crews can spend upwards of 3-4 nights a week in hotels, so we need facilities that are neat, clean, safe, quiet, and (hopefully) close to something to eat.

The airlines negotiate their own prices with the hotels, I can't quote you any specific numbers, but it is certainly not full price. Hotels generally like having crews there because we're guaranteed business, every night. The airline pays for all overnight hotels.

I'm not Doug, but I have stayed at that Park Plaza. Nice place.

Rv7, She doesn't fly. Well, she flys every week on an airline from event to event. However, she does not pilot the aircraft

We stay at the Park Plaza in BOS on long layovers. They've got a great grand entrance, but the rooms aren't all "that"!

I spent six nights at that hotel during the big 9/11 shutdown.

Most of the hotels we stay at are actually Holiday Inn's.

But there are negotiated rates so usually when the rack rate is $189 or so, the airline is actually paying significantly less, sometimes as low as $40 in some situations.

For example, there's a fantastic hotel in San Diego whose lowest rate was $289/night, but I was able to talk the manager into giving me the 'airline' rate, which was about $80 when I took Kristie out there on a long weekend.

Do airlines have "contracts" with hotels so their pilots will only stay there?

We have contracts for long layover hotels and short layover hotels and we only stay at those hotels.

Unless, of course, the hotel decides to 'walk' us when there's a big event in town

AA is pretty militant with their hotels about us getting 'bumped'. It happens on a rare occasion, and it's usually something the hotel had scheduled before the airline's contract took effect.

Right now there's a big stink going on with some of AAs european hotels, to save money the company decided (on it's own without the union's knowledge) not to renew a couple hotel's contracts, and put the crews in hotels by the airport with nothing around them. Cheap, but they suck for the crews because there's no where to get anything to eat, and you end up bored stiff because there's nothing to do!

The best hotel ever is our long MIA hotel. It's a 'crew only' hotel, so if you see another guest in the lobby or hallway, you know they're a crew member. (Not just AA crews, crews from many different airlines.) I loved that hotel! No door slamming, crank calling, people running up & down the hall yelling.........it was great.
