Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight..

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

I have confirmation from a Delta FA that you can indeed read a book...so I guess we should be thankful we don't have to stare at the seatback for an hour. Now if you rest your hands on your lap and read said book, that is another story! :(

Also, for those who commute, I've heard from 2 of my friends traveling today that rollerboards were not permitted in the cabin.

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

I think there will be a lot more car, bus, and train travel in my future.

What if I'm Diamond Medallion in Business Class. The rules don't apply to me, right?

:sarcasm:

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

One thing I don't get is why security measures are always REactive, in response to an incident? Why can't the TSA, airlines, and law enforcement come up with PROactive measures designed to prevent terrorist attacks before they happen?

Because people like us whine and complain about "unnecessary", proactive security measures.

You are not the only one. I have a trip planned for next summer to NW Ontario. I am fortunate enough to have a very casual schedule which allows me to make many trips at my leisure. In any case, I will be driving there..........from North Phoenix. 30 hour drive, crazy, I don't think so.

Again, I am fortunate to have the time to allow for such a journey and can enjoy sight seeing along the way. Also, the driving does not bother me.

The point is however, other than time crunched individuals and business travelers, I see air travel tailing off, on the 121 side. Fares, bag fees, TSA, being treated like cattle, etc. people are tired of it! All of this may combine to destroy the once great field of aviation.

Just my .02, which is worth less than that!

Nothing in my lap?

That's going to make it a lot harder to conceal my growing excitement for the modern passenger experience.

Ha ha is that a roll of quarters, or are you just looking forward to the strip search on arrival ?

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

They should focus on not letting people bring explosives onto an airplane before they focus on not letting people go to the bathroom in the last hour of the flight.

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

If someone is seriously contemplating a law that will forbid people from using the restroom in the last hour of flight, a fair number of men over 40 years old will require catheters to stop their bladders from exploding, and with that in mind, I can just imagine the number of security scares that will arise due to numerous people being discovered with catheter plumbing strapped to their legs.

The aviation security business is definitely entering a season of absurdity. Given the ideas now floating around, I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes up with the brilliant idea of sedating and trussing up all passengers between takeoff and landing, like so many zoological specimens.

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

Dealing with idiots on both sides rrrrr

Thing that made me made was he paid in cash one way, no checked bags, and was not questioned at that point in time. Then again, Lagos is not somewhere where this would be uncommon in today's world.

You know....that's not a bad idea.

I'll forward it up the chain of command!

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

Lagos airport is definitely THE weak link in the chain, when it comes to airport security. Well connected people, or those with loose change to spare, are EXEMPT from scrutiny. Happens all the time there, which is why that airport remains a major narcotics trans-shipment hub.

The only way to plug that leak would be to replace the entire security workforce in Lagos airport with Israeilis, which, given recent events, is well worth considering.

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

So today we had a TON of people stranded at SFO. Every flight from anywhere outside the US was delayed anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours under the delay code "Security". People who came in from YYC said they interviewed all 66 passengers in a room before they would let the plane depart, took 7 minutes per person.

C'mon, seriously, terrorists are smarter than they, they strike when we LEAST expect it. Then again, I always thought they were smart enough to not catch themselves on fire and roll around the aisle of an A330 in honor of Al Quida.

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

Should be interesting going to ARN and back this coming week. Pops was secretly happy he had a charter today. Managed to block almost 8 hours coming back from IND today in the empty airplne (dropped the brake and sat.... and sat.... and sat some more), making him illegal for his MCO turn tomorrow. Then the whole family is off to ARN on the 28th for new years.

Throw in FAs like this and you got a deal!

Re: Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight.

So terrorism is all about instilling fear in people. The media and the government should have simply downplayed this incident. We are just giving them an incentive to strike again if we make a big deal out of it.
