PacNW "Bomb Cyclone" 2024

Where will you get you hurricane cake?
As is tradition for PNW "hurricanes," I walked over to the brewery in my flannel and had a few hazy pints. Now home. Taking sporadic hits on the power but it's staying on thus far.

It is legitimately nasty out right now; I would estimate the initial breeze at 25-30 knots with much higher gusts here.

Big chungus branch hit the roof. Had to look and make sure it wasn't going to leak. No way I'm going up there again tonight.
Don't blow away!

He’s going to exhume the corpse of Willard Scott so instead of severe storm warnings, we’ll hear warm ersatz stories of days past and Smuckers Jelly ads.

Ok, adding to my previous advice, maybe not go check on the roof when a big chungus branch fell on top? Those gusts haven’t stopped. No bueno if chungus branch #2 hits you next while you’re up there. Roof leaking, put a bucket below and collect the water drips. The roof will be fixed when the storm passes.

There's thing called hurricane snacks that you typically go pick up from Publix. You do have Publix correct? No? Where will you get you hurricane cake?

Been shopping at Publix literally my entire life. Back when they were closed on Sunday. They still carry the groceries out to your car (though these days, they ask).

FWIW, it is privately held, employee owned.

The only complaint I’ve ever had about Publix is their deli, which at max speed can produce about 3 sandwiches an hour.

This isn't suburban LA. But thanks for your concern.

I am spending my hurricane eve drinking and building a Lego Corvette.

It got to 35G49 on north whidbey a couple hours ago. TAF line still holding out for 45G55 at some point in the next few hours. None of those things are in any way out of the norm for a typical winter storm (we had 40 sustained gusting to 65 knots a week or so ago). But the direction of 090-110 is a bit unusual, since our storms normally start more S-SE with a wind shift to pure westerly (normally the strongest) winds at frontal or low pressure system passage. Been a lot of flickering lights. I'm a little more worried than normal that our tree line on the east side of the yard will have an active night, since it isn't normally blown from that direction, though we have had a number of strong windstorms so far this season with little damage so I'm hoping the branches are where they need to be.....and also the ground isn't super saturated right now, which normally plays into the trees dropping vs not.
