Oh Skywest

Bevause the model doesn’t support it at these levels. You DO know how regional airlines (especially RJs) formed right?

It‘s possible, but as someone who buys tickets on a regular basis, I can tell you it’s not slowing down yet. On average, I’m paying double what I paid pre-pandemic.

This is my experience as well. I think CC trying to project his (possibly correct, possibly incorrect) doom and gloom about the economy onto the airline industry, and I think it’s just not slowing enough yet to depress demand.

Although if ticket prices stay where they are, I can’t imagine people not starting to stay home more soon. I could justify $1400 to get a family of four from TX to NC, but $2800 makes me a lot pickier about the reasons I’d fly.

Tell me you don’t understand the concept of the RJ airline world without telling me you don’t understand the concept of the RJ airline world.

Watch PBS’s documentary “Flying Cheap”
????

i came up in the aughts watching the industry suck and reading stuff(on this website) about why Freedom and GoJets existed. Take your sense of superiority elsewhere.

I want to know how you’re qualified to make the statement that “this isn’t sustainable.”

That’s such a cop out. “I want I know how you’re qualified to make a statement…” sounds politically charged. I’m not taking the bait. You’re free to believe whatever you want to believe.

If the economy doesn’t tank hard, and soon, I think we will find out just how sustainable the “regional” airline industry is. If the economy hangs on then it’s possible we could be in for a renaissance of the career, if not then I think the numbers of new pilots and ATPs will crater. Either way buckle up.

No one cares what I think, but the pilot supply situation is not sustainable. You will see either the 1500 hr rule going away or a new MPL program at the majors (like they do overseas). And maybe an increase in retirement age. But the current status quo of needing ATP, and 1500 hrs? Not sustainable.

What’s happening right now isn’t some new norm. It’s an anomaly, created in the post pandemic environment, where flying STILL isn’t back to 2019 levels (especially business travel).

So what's the reason that all the regionals are suddenly making livable wages? Not that, that's bad. But is is sustainable? What's the end game? If there is one. I guess what I'm asking, what everyone is asking. Why now?
It’s not sustainable. These pay rates aren’t because they love their pilots. It’s to stop people from leaving their airline because mainline is metering hiring and people are deciding to leave for LCC’s and ULCC’s instead wait around for a legacy to let them on board. Smart. But nothing about this is sustainable what so ever. And I’m sure a lot of it is billed to the legacies and the regionals barely make any, IF ANY, money at all.

So why now? Because there are no pilots for regionals to poach from anymore.

less questions and more building your flight time. This window will not remain open like this for years and years to come….

(Not sustainable in the sense that this is not going to last in terms of regional pay and just a short term solution to try to stop the bleeding)

This sounds like a contradicting statement. So pilot requirements will come down because it’s not sustainable for the future but travel hasn’t rebounded (in your opinion) to 2019 levels. So what is it? We don’t have pilots or there is no demand? Pick a lane

The pilot supply being a slightly longer term issue. For the immediate term, I’m worried about 2023/4. I don’t think we’re headed in a good direction in terms of economy/stock market/real estate/inflation.

Clears throat from eating a bag of Dicks!

I'm on board. CFI-A/CFII EOY, or early 2023.

Several days old now but OO pulled their “TA” due to “concerns raised by the pilot group” aka thanks to what Mesa put out last week OO realized that what they were offering wasn’t nearly enough.

Today Horizon’s new pay scales came out and let’s just say wow all around.
