Oh Oh Ohhhhh GLP-1!!!

Has anyone had any experience with GLP1 in daily pill form? Have seen some ads for them and think they would be great as an alternative to the shot since the schedule has me on the road 17-19 days a month in some non traditional locales where cooling can be an issue 😂
I am doing the wegovy pill. The only drawback is you have to take it on an empty stomach (i.e. first thing in the morning), take it with 4oz or less of water, and not eat or drink anything else for 30 minutes. All that is fine unless you have a random redeye thrown into your schedule.

I guess I could look, but how are the results thus far?

I don't mind the shot, I'm literally side-effect free but a pill would be more convenient if it's once per week like the injection.

I could be mistaken but I think the pill form is dally.

It’s a daily pill.😬

I just started about six weeks ago and had to take a two week break in the middle for surgery. So far, I’ve lost 4 lbs. I am increasing my dose on my next refill.

6 month update

Down to 205 from 235
Feeling great
Lost at a normal rate so no hanging skin so far.
On the 10 dosage of Zepbound
Out of pocket, but worth it
Lilly direct saves a couple bucks
I don’t get the “thanksgiving full” feeling all that often, maybe I’m eating normal portions.
I DO get snacky, but six months in I know I can quiet that FoOd NoIsE

I can tie my shoes without having to hold my breath, so that’s cool.

Lost a few belt holes, had to order smaller uniform, and have packed away my “fat kid clothing” hoping to never return to that size.

Good luck to all that are on it!

How is the Wegovy pill working for you? Are you finding any issues with time changes and/or side effects?

I'm about to quit my Wegovy injection entirely. Been on it for too long now (8 months?) and I still have the same, essentially all, side effects. Depending on how bad my side effects are when I take the 1.7mg, I often step it back down to 1.0 or off entirely for a week or two to give my physical and mental a flipping break. I'm down 30 lbs now but the side effects are literally THE WORST.

I'm seriously looking for other avenues and my endocrin doc (since I take thyroid meds) says the only option is to move to the pill version (Wegovy or maybe Foundayo). I can not imagine ever moving up to a 2.4mg or heaven forbid a 7.2mg Wegovy. Maybe I should just go into maintenance mode until they come out with a version that doesn't include nausea and vomiting. I'm so over this.

What are you guys using for the FAA worksheet that needs a detailed clinical report from the treating physician? What do I tell my doctor to do? Write a letter? Or can I just print the MyChart notes?

I haven’t had those symptoms but I have had some issues with the Wegovy injection. My first dosage change was…interesting. Been mostly free of issues since then.

Hope you find something that works better.

They have a worksheet you can use in lieu of the clinical record. Have your dr fill it out and sign it.

If you reference the Weight Loss Management disposition table - (under selection B.) - it says "OR." Either a weight loss management report or the clinical progress note... I'd just print out the former, fill everything in (your most recent A1C, a bunch of no's, and currents meds list) and have your GP sign it for your AME.

(Also - taking medical advice from another pilot is like taking medical advice from a las vegas magician - call AMAS and they can walk you through it - but I do think I'm right in this case.)

Took me over 2 months to get used to the 1.0 - a pilot buddy of mine went to one of the 'blends' because the nausea was getting to him... I can't remember which one right now, but he says the nausea was night and day versus the Wegovy. Many of the FA's I work with tell me that injecting anywhere other than the tummy helps with the nausea. (I tried the leg for 2 weeks - I don't know if it helped, but the 2nd week I think that I hit muscle and had one crazy day of nausea and then the damn shot didn't do anything for me that week.)

I'm probably going to swap into the pill in the next month or two to make it easier when on the road - carrying the shots across the country for my 6-14 day stretches has been annoying as heck. Plus, I hit a serious plateau at my "healthy" adult weight and I really need to drop 15 more to get to where I want to be going onto maintenance.

I think the latest version of the worksheet has deleted the A1C requirement unless you have had a history of it being elevated. But your best to double check that.

I had the wrong form. Doh.

Thanks. And maybe I’ll call AMAS too.

One suggestion to is to ask your doctor for your full medical chart.

I discovered that mine was chock full of the highest-paying maladies and they were absolutely smug about removing it because it part of their revenue model.

Yes, I dropped them like Skrillex drops that basssss.

2 months ago I switched to the Wegovy Pill, as my new InsurAAnce doesn't cover ANY GLP-1 Medications. I'm using Norv Nordisk discount program, getting the 4mg pill for $149 a month, since I've already lost the weight I shouldn't need anything more than that.

There was a 2 week gap from my last Mounjaro dose to the Wegovy Pill, I gained back 15 pounds during the first month on the Wegovy pill, but have leveled off since then. I'm OK with this as my body filled out a little and I look more like a normal person imo. As far as Side effects, I'm more gassy than normal, but thats been it.

Taking the pill in the AM then 30 min wait kinda sucks. In the future if the cost comes back down for Mounjaro/Zepbound, I'll go back to that, simply because I felt the shot was more convenient.

It's been 22 months since my first shot, still sitting at 100 pounds lighter than my heaviest weight. Taking GLP-1's has been one of the best decisions i've made in my life thus far.

And that YOU, @skypilot6. I still remember my nervous phone call with you (or was it a text?) about considering the journey myself.

You gave me confidence, were 100% correct and it was life-changing. Thank you my friend.

Well, the Wegovy pill sounds promising.

I'm going to try one more week of the 1.7mg Wegovy injection and see how this next week goes. I have one trick that I implemented last week that actually worked. it kept me from vomiting the morning after taking the injection, such a nice change! So I'm going to try that trick again and see if it continues to work. It's the only hurdle I care about. The rest of the GI BS, as much as it's unwanted, I can deal with.

If not, I'll be having a convo about switching from injection to pill or maybe Foundaio pill. I still really want to lose another 15-30 lbs though, get to my college or better yet HS weight. :(

I started off with Tirzepitide peptides, if I remember correctly about 2 years ago, before moving to Zepbound (which physically made me feel like I had the flu every week, worse than Wegovy) then switched to Wegovy.
I would love to see R&D (research & development) come out with a version of these drugs that has no side effects so anyone and everyone can benefit from it.
