Oh Delta XXVIII

Sounds like good management to me.

The mandate wasn’t given because companies like Delta weren’t doing enough. Delta (among others) have led the way in vaccination rates since the beginning. If their vaccination plan is working, and the government agrees, and they have the opportunity to avoid employee discontent, then bravo to them.

yes, it’s excellent management to get that far, no dispute. Irregardless, enforce the mandate equally or get rid of it entirely.

And just to be clear, if the government did indeed give Delta a hard mandate, I would have absolutely no problem with it.

Bingo. Mandates solve the problem.
Devils advocate (and I'm vaxxed): I've read that there is no legal authority to mandate a vaccine that isn't FDA approved, none of the currently available are, and that even though Pfizer got their "other" vaccine approved and it's supposed to be the exact same as the EAU formula there's no way of finding out for sure if that's actually true and it's still not available here. But the other two available vaccines, J&J and Moderna don't have an approved equivalent. The point being if these large corporations start firing people for not taking a vaccine that isn't FDA approved based on a poorly thought out EO mandate these companies might be liable for massive amounts of wrongful termination lawsuits. Maybe Delta is hedging it's bets.

then to be in compliance with the EO they will need 100% vaccinated.
The company has repeatedly said that they have had discussions with the White House clarifying the order. I would imagine if the WH didn’t approve of their vaccination plan, Delta wouldn’t be doing it.

guess time will tell. The rules are pretty specific, all federal contractors must be vaccinated with no testing option, including those who work outside and from home.

I know a guy whose wife is high level lawyer for a big pharma company. He's not gotten the vaccine and his wife has no issues with that, of course he's now a retired haus frau that lives a gilded life based on her income. It's an odd world we live in.

That sounds awesome! What's odd about that?
How many guys in their 40's do you know that've given up a career because their wife makes so much money that it actually costs them money if he continues working, he's the second I've known. It's odd. And it does sound awesome.

Giving up zero is still zero.

Delta is a success story if you ask me considering they're at 90% and counting. Motivating people to get vaccinated on their own volition instead of using the federal mandates as an excuse to implement a policy is just good management. All business owners should aspire to that kind of success.

I’d love for there not to be a mandate, but it’s time to end this stuff. For the people who have LEGITIMATE reasons not to get vaccinated, I understand the hesitation. But most of the hold outs are just being children. Just like when a kid acts up in class, it sucks to disrupt his education and pull him out of class, but when it’s impacting the health, wellbeing, and prosperity of everyone else, it’s time to leave that kid behind.
