Off to UND this fall

I've been on worse. Omce I was crusing around eastern Illinoise and I noticed a really long but narrow runway. I dont remember the name of the airport. If you drew a line from Aurora airport to Champaign airport it is somewhere on that line.

But anyway, I kid you not the wings were wider than the runway. I decided to land there full stop just for kicks. There was only 10 inches of runway outside of each tire. Noone was there of course since this is in the middle of podunk USA, so I could ask someone why they had such a LONG narrow runway. I dont think the I had both tires on the runway when I landed. There was a 10 knot cross wind too, so it was probly luck if I did get both tires on it.

Jason,
You must be crazy man. Landing at Hillsboro was no fun being that the runway is only 60 ft. wide. And then Larimore's only 50 ft. wide.
Can you tell I suck at landing?
It's not too much of the length that I'm concerned with. It's the width that bothers me. Ah oh well....
It sucks 'cause there hasn't been any improvement on the pattern and landing, even after doing it eleven times. You'd think there'd be an improvement, but there isn't. None whatsoever, which pisses me off considering the solo is near and the stage check too. Ah, Luke (but not just him—others here too) has made it sound like 102 is real easy, from previous posts. It's not, I'm noticing. Especially during the summer, I'd say.

Oh well. I hope I can get this done by the end of summer.

Lol, I was just kidding about Larimore. Well kinda. I'd suggest you go there when you get into short field landings and takeoffs for some good practice. Dont worry about your landings. They will get better. Mine really sucked at first. Heck, I still dont have my short field landing over a 50 ft obsticle perfected. It will come with more practice. Have you been to CKN or GAF yet? Both are easy to find and have nice sized runways.

102 is not an easy course to finish in time. Don't worry about it too much. Fly often, fly safe, and most importantly have fun.

Well, let's see how it goes tomorrow. I hope there's some improvement. The main problem I'm having now is multitasking. I can't be listening to the instructor, handle the radio, stay on top of the checklists, maintain descent rate, speed, etc. I know I'm whining too much....but it kind of sucks. And before any of you mention it, yes flying IFR increases the load, yes. I guess it's because I have to get a hang of how the airplane flies.

I know you were only joking.

Yeah, I've always thought narrow and short runways = loads of fun, except when practicing!

Nah, I haven't been to Crookston or Grafton yet. I've only been in two practice areas, actually.

I was laughing today at the reporting points...
I mean, what the hell's "Carpet"?

How does some outsider know that it's a small roof with the word "CARPET" painted on top of it, lol.

Training here's funny, weird, cool and annoying, lol.

Later.

The reporting points are just for UND and pilots familiar with local procedures. I am sure you will here someone call up approach and if it is a Sioux something or the other, he/she will ask if familiar with area. If they aren't, he will just tell enter from whichever direction.

This is a common thing, most airports have local ways of doing things and pilots should try to find out ahead of time about this as to not disrupt traffic flow or piss off other pilots/controllers.

Give it time, you will get used to the crap.

You'll find that everywhere you go!! After I moved to Nashville, i was flying on a long final into Smyrna, and the controller told me to report over Nissan. Since I didn't know, I just told him I wasn't familiar with Nissan. So, he told me that it was the Nissan plant, located right along the final approach course.

Not as weird as you might think!!

Ha ha ha, I think you guys have a point there. You're right.
I remember when I was flying with a friend around Farmingdale, NY, the controller told us, and others to report "the mall". I was laughing then, as well, because I was thinking "which one of the malls?"

Yeah, you're right.

But the report "CARPET" thing is tooooooooooooo funny. I like it now! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Well I'm all registered now.

I have meterology I, with lab.
Aviation Orientation
US history until 1877
and Intro to aviation, with the test course since I already have my PPL.

I am also in that Intro to acedemic life. Witch is retarded as hell except for meeting people and getting a sample lecture to see what its like instead of going in dry having no clue. I was up there for 4 days and felt like I'd been there for a month, I was a lot of fun hanging out with the people I met.

Mabey I'll see some of you guys from here up there.
Regards

Tom

Yes. I felt bad for everyone else there. Here we are in there already an established group of freinds and 80% of the other kids were with their parents the whole day.

I felt like we were leaving them out, but they'll be alright when school starts.

Can't wait. see ya there
