Off to UND this fall

My final Highschool transcript was received and its official now.

I'll be attending the University of North Dakota this fall. I'm going to major in aviation management, which is pretty much the same as their commercial flight program but with a buisiness degree on the side.

Thanks to all who kept me motivated to keep going and pursue this career. Those "day in the Life" writings are what keep me excited to get there.

Regards

Tom

Congratulations! There are a few Jetcareer members who go to UND. I am considering UND now.

Hey, if you need any info or advice on which classes to take, ask me or someone else on here. DO NOT ASK an advisor. They are there to keep you at UND as long as possible. The longer you stay, the more money out of your pocket and into UND's.

Anyways, congrats and probably see you up here.

Hey Tom, I'm also going this fall, unless there's some fluke and I can't get the money together. Into the Aviation Business/Admin program too. Maybe I'll catch you there.

So advise away, seriously.

Well are you Aviation Management or Airport Management? Only difference between them is the flying. Aviation Management has the student go all the way through 325 (which is Commercial Multi Instrument).

If you are Aviation Management, it is impossible to get done in 4 years without going summers. Summers here are key, I know you will want to go home and be with family and friends, but they are here to get the student ahead or to catch up.

So here is a list:

1) Go to summer school

2) Start flying as soon as possible, and finish on time and get into the next course the following semester

3) Take more than 15 credits per semester (anything after 12 is free). So with this principal in mind, don't take an easy class in the summer. Save it for the fall because it is free assuming you are taking more than 12 credits. And don't go to it, it is usually a waste of your time.

4) Take all the CLEP tests you can. If you think you won't get credit for it, take it anyway and you'll be surprised at the results.

5) Become a junior as soon as possible (60 completed credits). All the upper level classes are open to you then. Those are the ones that keep people here longer because they can't get into them. Some of these are good for summer. Plus, the more credits you have, the earlier you register and you will have a much better chance getting into classes.

There are more, and when I think of them, I'll share them.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I am planning on going into aviation management, not airport. I was also planning on staying summers, but for other reasons.

Congrats UAL747400 and welcome to the UND family!

<-- love that smiley

Congrats! I'm going there this Fall too! Moving from San Diego to Grand Forks. My major is Aviation Management as well.

Thanks for the info Iruppert. I wont make it there this summer though. Since I already have my PPL I want to get that "Intro to Aviation" out of the way.

Hope I see you all up there. Anyone going to that thing in July. 14-17 or something like that. I just wanted to go up those 2 days to register. But my dad thought it would be a good idea if I did those 2 day seminars that are suppose to "prepare" you for college life.

Whatever.

Sorry about the poor writing. Its 11:30 and I'm about ready to go to bed

Thanks

Tom

Glad to see you already have you ppl, but on the other hand, sorry to hear you have to take the 112 test course. Might as well just stand in front of a turning propellor and throw you money into it. I am assuming you have to take the ground school too (102), that is cake so don't worry about that.

I'll be doing aviation management, but also would like to get my CFI, CFII, CFMEI. Anyone done the CRJ sim. I think I might like to do that to if it looks worth it. I reallize it probably wont help me but I think it might be interested.

Looks like I might be the youngest one from here up there as I'm only 19. (darn, not legal yet)

Its only 10 - 13 lessons I belive. Of course I'm not there some I'm not sure. Did you have your private before you went up.

The ground school's not worrying me but since I've already got my style and habbits of the way I fly I'm worried that It will take me a little time to fly how they want me to. I'm also not used to operating at a controlled airport all the time, but I'm sure I'll adjust to that.

Tom

It is 14 lessons and will cost you a around 3000 grand. Yeah, don't worry about the groundschool, it is pretty easy.

I came here with around 40 hours so I did the 105 course, which is the exact same thing as the 112, but I have a 15th lesson which is the ride with a DPE.

Yeah, getting to know the way they want us to fly here is hard at first. When you are up here for that getting started garbage, you should do yourself a favor and by the Warrior Checklist, Stand Manual, Policies and Procedures, and go over them before you come up the fall. It will help you a lot once you get into the plane.

Don't worry about the tower thing. It WILL be nuts in the fall though, as it always is, but you learn to adjust and end up just fine.

Wow 3 grand.

I'll have about 100 hours when I get up there, I'm sure I'll have some kind of bad habbit they'll want to suck money out of me to get rid of.

Man I cant think right now. I read what I just typed and It doesnt make sense. Could be in my head.

I wish I was 17. I just want to get started on my career. I wont graduate until I'm 23. I think I'd much rather graduate at 21. Oh well.
