Off to UND this fall

Hey dude, (If I may ask) just wodnering what were your scores??? like GPA or SAT/ACT? im goign to be a senior this fall, and just curious on what 'stuff' I need to get admitted.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think UND is quite selective, but I had a 3.2 GPA, and 1150 on the SAT.

Nice thing about this school is that you don't have to write an essay for admissions, unlike other schools.

You should be fine I suppose. What are your grades if you don't mind?

You need either a) loaded parents, or b) a willingness to assume $100k+ in student loan debt.

We call that "extreme pre-flight"

UND's costs are not too horrible. It would have actually been $500 cheaper per year to go to UND and pay out of state tuition then it does for me to go to Western Michigan and pay in state.

I gave up on the idea of going to UND. As I've learned from many forums it is best to get a non-aviation degree and get your licenses/ratings separately.

That is why I'm getting a degree in aviation management. What they mean by "non-aviation" is "non-flight". UND also has a program that is strictly toward flight training only called aeronautical science. Now unless you go on and take a few more classes and make that an Aeronautical engineering degree, the aeronautical science degree will get you virtually no where except flying planes. And if flying doesn't work out, then your SOL.

Aviation management is buisiness degree and that will pretty much take me anywhere. You get all the flight training, plus have a degree in buisiness. Granted I'll have to take a couple extra classes to get my Instructor ratings.

I could stay here in Iowa and go to a University with an airport nearby, and take flying lessons at the airport like I did with my private, and then go to college and major in something as a backup. But I believe the schooling you get at UND is second to none except mabey the military. Of course I havent been there yet, but I've heard many people compare the level of teaching at their airport to UND and I havent heard one person say they thought they recieved as much knowlege from their home airport as UND. Plus you get to take all those cool science classes related to aeronautics, that is the main reason I chose UND.

Sorry for the rambling.

Regards

Tom

Lol, thats a good term for it.

<off topic> is that a pic of N369ND? Just curious cause I did my initial traffic pattern solo in good ol' Sioux 69. </off topic>

What alot of people don't realize is that many times when a person needs a college degree, it can often be any college degree. For example, the airlines dont call for a college degree in aviation, it can be in drums for all they care. Well if you get the aviation degree here (commercial aviation) it doesnt mean all you can do is "fly planes", but you can also apply to another job out in the world where all that is required is a college degree in anything if you dont want to fly. So its not as worthless as everyone writes it up to be.

Congrats on the first landings, I hope you were gentle on my fav UND plane.

Ouch, noooooooo! My first four landings sucked, at Warren. The last landing at Warren was desent, and my last landing at G-Forks was great (if I may brag). So in short, no, I was not gentle on your puppy.

Did you land on the grass strip at Warren? I always disliked Warren when training for my private. I wasn't the greatest lander of planes and those trees coming in on 12 caused plenty of turbulence that I didn't like it much. Mostly cause I usually messed up.

And wouldn't you have known it, I went there for my DE ride and landed on 12 for cross-wind landings and runway 22 for my softfield landings. I did great on both and after that I knew I would pass the checkride.

Yeah landing on rwy 12 can be fun with the trees and all. Hey AF, for a really good time, go do landings at Larimore.

Luke, I landed on 30. I saw the grass strip, which looked cool, but didn't land on it.

Jason,
You must be crazy man. Landing at Hillsboro was no fun being that the runway is only 60 ft. wide. And then Larimore's only 50 ft. wide.
Can you tell I suck at landing?
It's not too much of the length that I'm concerned with. It's the width that bothers me. Ah oh well....
It sucks 'cause there hasn't been any improvement on the pattern and landing, even after doing it eleven times. You'd think there'd be an improvement, but there isn't. None whatsoever, which pisses me off considering the solo is near and the stage check too. Ah, Luke (but not just him—others here too) has made it sound like 102 is real easy, from previous posts. It's not, I'm noticing. Especially during the summer, I'd say.

Oh well. I hope I can get this done by the end of summer.

lol, just wait till you land on a 32ft wide runway with a decent crosswind.

You'll get it down just takes practice. My landings were awful when i first started.
