not another pilot divorce

Most older pilots seem to be divorced or working on there second or third marriage. Well my friends parents (dad flies for Delta) have been together for awhile and I always saw them and was like 'oh well if they can do it, then I'm sure when I meet someone down the line I can do it to!' Sorta like an inspirational thing. Well turns out they finally decided to get a divorce. FRiiiiiick. What is the rate for pilots and divorce? It's kinda discouraging.

Probably about 50%. Same as everybody else.
 
Exactly. Just a wild ass guess here, but I would suspect that of all the pilots that have gotten divorced, "aviation" wasn't the primary cause of a good chunk of them.

My parents were married for 23 years before they went their seperate ways a couple years ago. It happens.

Do you know for sure that their divorce was caused by aviation? There could be a million other reaons.
 
Precisely, that's one of my pet peeves. Whenever anyone asks me about flight attendants and extramarital sex, I like to ask "So, are you banging your secretary?"

Well a lot of people these days get divorced on really stupid things. I think I got more friends whose parents are divorced than not.
 
A lot of people get married for really stupid reasons, so it only stands to reason that they'll get divorced for stupid reasons. I mean, come on. J Lo is considered a role model for some women.....
 
MQ I think the pilot rate may be a little higher than 50%. Let me make that the aviation rate.

It has nothing to do with the pilot-flight attendant myth either, it just has to do with the "hobo" lifestyle of being away from home the majority of the time. Not many people can adapt to that situation.

It sounds like you and your husband have, and that is awesome. I know it would be an incredible stress on me and my relationship with my family if I had to go back on the road with an airline.

Keep in mind that the main reasons for the aviation divorce rate usually has to do with #1: being away from home all the time and #2: money, #3 trust....the whole cheating thing is way down the list compared to everything else.

the being away from home tends to wear on a lot on family (esp families with children) and it really takes a strong consistent (through the years) commitment to communication, staying best friends and not taking things too seriously to be able to hang through all the years of "change".
 
I was reading in a book today that the national divorce rate is 57.7%. That was I think in 1999. Not sure what it is in 2004/2005.

Divorce scares me more than death. I've been pretty bummed out about the "break" that my girlfriend and I are on... I wouldn't want to experience a family separation.
