Non-revving in First, and Facebook

I just wanted to see if there were others out there that share my opinion. I'm not much of a ranter anymore, Hawaii has mellowed me out quite a bit, so I don't want this to seem as such... Anyhow: I love jumpseating, non-revving, and the flight benefits we receive with our jobs. It enables us to make and visit friends in all parts of the world, and certainly makes the world feel "smaller." I think I'd be broke if I had to pay full for for all of the flights I've taken in the past 10 years.

However: What I've noticed more of lately are increasing posts on social media of first class seats, drinks in hand, boarding passes (2K!!!) superimposed on champagne flutes in the fully reclined position, perhaps with a caption "another free flight after a great trip in XXX." Just for example. Not that these are really meant nefariously, but I do think that these sometimes contribute to that "overpaid, lazy, always gets free flights in first class" image that we want to avoid. My airline's policy asks us not to "flaunt" our non-rev status to other passengers, whether upgraded or not, and I think that's a good policy.

Wait, people get first class when non-revving?
I know United does not upgrade rewards members on international flights. That helps with grabbing a first class or business class seat on an international trip. You still do pay something like $90 but then again the seat is worth $1000 or more.

It's probably a pretty odd mix with the "Ah [bleep], stuck in [outstation] AGAIN due to flow AND a mechanical AND..." stuff.

Frequently.

Usually on my own metal, though, and only when there's a widget painted on the side. A few weeks ago I said "Aw, heck with it" and burned a vacation pass (S2) to ride on our own metal. Short leg, but if you don't use them, you lose them, and my renewal date was coming up.

I was told when non revving, always be polite, and discreet. I heard a couple of people discussing it on the way over in business. I'll never talk about it unless maybe someone is a US pilot.

I am always happy to make the last seat in the back, and always elated with business of course. My pilot primary/sponsor always hates it if I don't get business but I don't see it that way.

I got TSA Pre this time also which helped get from International to Domestic at EWR... Pretty cool.

Alex.

I don't mind seeing it on facebook from pilot friends; seeing it from rampers kind of pisses me off.

Eh, I posted that kind of stuff when I was a ramper. Never bragged about it being free (because it wasn't exactly) but going to Europe in first class is something I'd like to remember, nothing wrong with a few pictures. Plus it's not like Facebook is the general public really.

There's a large group of kids from college who did nothing with themselves and now just work the ramp. Laziness gets them 1st class while pilots are stuck in cattle class.
No it doesn't they are employees and it is a benefit. If they are senior then they go ahead. Not that hard of a concept. Who cares what they did with their life or how you perceive their success.

A college dropout throwing bags for delta for 1 month shouldn't travel higher than a 10 year regional captain flying a Delta colored plane. I can't nonrev anymore anyways, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

why not? the college dropout throwing bags for delta is a delta employee (assuming so in this scenario), the 10 year regional captain is not a delta employee. seems pretty simple to me? Yeah it sucks, but it makes sense.

Everyone is working towards the same goal. Straight seniority would be sweet. Like I said, I can't nonrev so I'll be last on regardless.

Acting like every other airport employee is below them makes pilots look so awesome too.
I paid my way through my ratings busting my ass on the ramp for 4 years. I don't see how it's any different than a junior FO for PSA getting onto a US mainline flight before a 10 year Mesa captain, yet nobody is complaining about that.

I'm not saying lazy tampers don't exist by the thousands, but that's painting with a pretty broad brush.
