No Instrument Rating

I was just wondering if it is possible for someone to get hired at a regional or corp flying (G-V, A/bbd700) without an instrument rating? If it is possible I would assume only as SIC under VMC conditions (VMC obviously). Thank you.

Yeah a commercial without an IFR rating carrying passengers only allows you daytime flights up to 50 miles away from your base so its about useless. Pretty much need that Insturment line on your tag to even get looked at.

I've seen one DZ hire VFR only Comm pilots, but that too is few and far beetween. If you want to fly for hire, an instrument rating is pretty much required.

"Point Mugu approach, Gulfstream one one two alpha foxtrot, request V-F-R flight following, cruse altitude one-seven-seventeen thousand, five hunert'..."

Please go get your instrument rating. It will save your life someday.

If I recall, the instrument rating was the cheapest rating I did, also the fastest. Just go get it!
And the most fun.

I don't mean to sound harsh, BUT good luck getting a banner tow job without an instrument rating...
It is doable, my current employer didn't care about my inst. ticket. However, a lot of the xc stuff can get a bit hairy if you are not inst rated; it is not uncommon to shoot a local app from time to time.

How did you like training with ATP? Are you done with your 90 day career program?

I am happy with my choice to train there. Working on CFI...took a little break before the start of it...needed some down time...haha. You have any plans to start anytime soon?

ESPECIALLY if you fly an aircraft that can cover so much ground in so little time. It's one thing to VFR a 172 for 4 hours, a G-V in 4 hours will have you in a completely different part of the country with very different weather.

I just took a 172 to California and back a couple of weeks ago and I can attest to the fact that without IR it can be a pain the butt, and I was only covering 1000 miles a day. most jets can do that in a few hours and the owners most definitely don't want to sit on the ground because the pilot can't handle low vis or whatever the IMC may be

where you living at? I assume honolulu but I know I don't update my profile nearly as often as I should so I figured I'd ask

Thanks to the gentlemen that displayed constructive responses to my question and for refraining at taking shots at me...to the guys with snide remarks...no comment, i just may get banned permanently for my remarks. It is obvious these guys didn't understand the question and were too quick to shoot off in an attempt to be amusing. FYI this is not a question im asking for myself...looked up an old friend on faa.gov airmen certificate...he is type rated in the previously mentioned aircraft, has all his certs with the exception of an instrument rating, did not see it anywhere on the query page.

Does he have an ATP?

If he has an ATP the IR is assumed and not separately listed.
