AH the old Terminal vs. Enroute battle. It's like Jews vs Palastinians......the battle will never be won, no matter how many mortal blows one delivers to the other. IMO, going to ANY level 11 or 12 COULD be seen as suicide. All facilities have their "easy" areas and their "busy" areas. Take a busy ZNY or ZFW area or sector OTS and it is going to be difficult. I think the realization should be....there is a critical staffing issue ammong ATC(yes I know we all know this), and replenishing the force is going to be a daunting task, let alone training these folks (me) who have no experience to run traffic at any large facility....but it HAS to be done. Let's just hope and pray, the experienced guys have the patience and gusto and the new guys have the brass and brains to get it done quickly, effectively, and safely. If you want to go to N90 good luck....it will be tough, but I know of plenty of folks who wash out at ZFW or ZHU...OTS, CTI, even some people I know who were old RAPCON ATC's washed out at a level 12. Either way you look at it the higher the level the higher the workload....and you can't tell me that the FAA wouldn't look at paying a level 12 Enroute controller less than a level 12 TRACON/LOCAL controller if the job was "easier", because I would go to the bank that they would do that. But they can't, and there is a reason for that.
