Next PUBNAT is...

Does anyone know where to find numbers to facilities? Can you call the number in the AFD (Airport Facility Directory for pilots)?

-When you call do you just ask for the Facility Manager?

-When talking to them do you just come right out and ask them about their numbers after introducing yourself?

Thanks!

Well shoot...there is a PDF with all the phone numbers...but where is it...

I'll see if I can track it down.

Ah-Ha!

Thank you SM

Thanks everyone with the great info!

I have got two numbers to the local facility, one is to the NATA rep and the other is to the manager. Both given to me by local controllers here. Who would be better to call? or both?

Thanks Again!!!!!!!

Anybody know how NY TRACON (N90) is lookin?

They need people, but you won't check out there OTS. If you want to work in a terminal, find a level 7-9 somewhere and get some experience before moving up to the big leagues.

If you want a level 10-12 off the bat, you want to go to a center.

that's not an ABSOLUTE truth. i have heard that about some places, but i am headed to ZKC in september. i am in OKC right now in training, and we already know of people at the center who have checked out (ZKC is level 11). i don't know about new york tracon, but don't let it scare you away. it is going to be hard getting a terminal position as it is. i would say go for whatever is open. i would be willing to bet ZNY could still use some people!

A busy TRACON (N90, A80, etc.) is basically ATC suicide right when you are off the streets with no prior ATC experience.

N90 has something like 2.5 million operations a year in very, very tight airspace. That should scare anyone who is going there off the streets with no prior experience...

So since I'm new to this whole thing I'll ask....

does that mean I'm done for if I got selected for ZLA (level 12) and I'm OTS?

And, what happens if you wash-out? Do they send me to a lower level or do I just get canned?

ZLA is level 11 and it is a center. As ATLTRACON has posted, centers are good places to learn. I'll be joining you there sometime...

If i went to ZNY would it be as hard to check out as N90, and how hard would it be to bid out and get N90 after a few years?

Apparently once you get to N90, you never see daylight again. It is responsible for LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark Liberty, all level 10 facilities. I think if anyone volunteered to go to N90, they would probably let you go there.

ZLA is level 12, i posted a couple corrections to the list boomersooner posted back in december, they're just further down in the thread.
