New Student Fall of 08

So that means that I am going to pay extra 4 dollars an hour to pay another students instructor... Nice.
something like that. if your instructor doesn't work enough during the semester than they dont' get the bonus, but some instructors last semester worked close to or over 600 hours (not all flight) and they definetly early a little additional compensation

I thought it was said earlier that the actual Flight Instructors do not get a pay raise. I don't get where the $4 is going, it should go to the instructors.

Edit- So the $4 is for instructors who work a specific minimum time? It's a bonus for working more, as opposed to working part time?

no raise, but a "bonus" if you work x amount of hours in the semester. 4/hour per every hour you worked can add up to a lot. i.e. 600x4=2400.00 pre tax

?!?!?! 600 hours? I wonder who did that..................I wonder whoooo.........hehehe

...but yes, it's a bonus for those who exceed a certain amount of hours, at a rate of $4/hr for the total amount of contact hours that semester.

It really IS the only way UND has thought of keeping its instructors...and quite frankly, it's a poor attempt. (edit: I guess the free MEI w/ one year contract thing is also something else they've though of). Then again, money is money...they don't want to lose money either. The added bonus really isn't an incentive for me to stick around. There's more to the equation.

I have no problem paying a little extra, I just kind of wish it was going to my instructor.

Haha, well then switch instructors, I'll take you. :D jk

I think I'm busy enough this semester. :panic:

How's your training going?

Well, I might take you up on that, now that you offered. ;)

I've got 221 lesson 1 tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to that... I think discussing Policy and Procedures/TCO will be very fun. I'm going to try and finish 221 quickly though, weather permitting...

always a good plan

oh, and i have no additional spots open, 7 students is more than enough plus stages!

Your chances are 100% IF you don't meet the automatic admissions criteria. However, you will most likely still get in. I was reviewed, for a missing social science credit and they let me in. I had a high GPA and good SAT scores. I don't know how it works if you have a GPA issue or SAT issue. I think the whole admissions department here is a joke, especially the director--Heidi something. Her office is very unorganized, so be aware of the dates your grades and things are due. They will most likely lose everything important, so you will probably have to send it in again. Also, the admissions department hasn't discovered the computer yet. So trying to accomplish anything via the very new concept of the internet is probably a lost cause.

I wouldn't worry. If you don't get accepted and you still want to go to UND, send in an appeal and you will get in.

you were right about them losing everything I got an e-mail today from UND

Thanks for applying for admission! I see you applied for admission online, but
it appears we do not have your application fee. In addition to academic
transcripts and official test scores, the fee is necessary for us to keep the
process moving forward toward making an admission decision.

Here are your application fee payment options:
* Mail a check for $35 to the following address (made out to UND): UND
Admissions Office, 264 Centennial Dr, Stop 8357, Grand Forks, ND 58202-8357.
* A credit card payment: By phone if you call UND's Student Account Services
at (701)777-3911. You'll leave a message and an assistant will return your call
to complete the transaction.

Wow, No way my guidance sent everything to them in the middle of December. I sent them check personally and a resume there is no way they lost everything I sent them!!! I particularly remember I got a card from UND asking my transcripts and ACT in December 4 days after I applied, since they were so quick my guidance did not have time to send my transcripts yet. Now 4 weeks later, they tell me I did not send them anything not even a check that they said they got! :banghead:

Gonna reply to their e-mail asking whats up with that :panic:

I just took at a look at my flight records ffor 221 and 222 just to get an idea of how much time ill need to get that 98 hours. I have 61 right now in the commercial course so I have been told that 323 doesnt take more than 25 at most. If I do take 25 hours, that will leave with 12 hours of x/c time to make up. I have explored almost every airport in North dakota as well as northern minnesota, and some of south dakota, just trying to start some planning but I want to go somewhere interesting. Anyone do some fun X/C's and have some suggestions.

Ashland, Duluth, Sky Harbor were really cool. Also maybe Rapid City. Generally I'd say go east. A lot more to see rather then west (during day at least). Also if you haven't been down to St Paul, I'd say do that. Nothing much to see in ND. Definitely go to Sky Harbor if you haven't already, it has a awesome approach. Crossing superior to go to Ashland is cool too! (Short part over Duluth I mean) :buck:

Oh also Grand Rapids has a sweet airport, I really enjoyed it.

I would recommend that your parents or guidance counselor send the email asking what happened. Things will get done more effectively that way.

So that extra 4 dollars an hour is for instructors who work more?
***STUDENTS BEWARE***

Im not saying that all flight instructors are dishonest but I have been overcharged by some instructors more than I can count especially during briefings. Students,, keep track of time and dont be afraid to object to what the CFI writes down on the ground log. I like to be very open during briefings and say the time we start and the time we stop, its easy for an instructor to tack on extra .1, .2 ,.3, These numbers may be small but after a few briefings or even flights, these times add up and only cost you more money. Just something to keep in mind.:)

Calling them would probaly be quicker and more effective.

Though if they sent an email, they would have record of it when UND screws something up again. :)

Calling would be quick and easy, but they might want to be sure they have a record of it.

I should add, I had to send in my app 3 times before they finally "got it."

You can always do both to be sure. :buck:
I didn't have any problems at all during admission. Guess I got lucky.

Oh, I was just browsing Youtube, this is off topic I can't help but add it. (I guess it is related to earlier posts in the thread. :D)

As for the check....check your bank records to see if it has been cashed.

As for time in 323, I am going to need about 7, so I am looking forward to either Ashland or Rapid City. I would go home, but I don't feel like taking a warrior (because it is cheaper) for a 5-6 hour flight.
