Yes. I don't know specifics on the the school, just some of the info on the program. You will get more info on the school itself if you do a search for "Ari Ben". Like many other schools, there are good and bad opinions about the school. One of the things I would look at is the "Yellow Ribbon" program. Without it, you will need to cover about 10K a year OUT OF POCKET since it's not a state school. According to the VA information, the school only provides 10 yellow ribbon "scholarships"...but contact the school for actual info. The program doesn't look bad, but I think I am going to try and hook up the COCC dual track program if money is still available in a year or so.

Oh yes, as far as ATP is concerned....screw 'em. I will gladly take my tax payer provided money somewhere else.

I'm all about companies making money, but I think I would have preferred that they have NO information on the website about VA bennies as opposed to the insult that I take from the page.
 
I asked my contact at MSU:

"Can you tell me what ATP means by that:

It appears that ATP is not going to work with VA on vets benefits. Is it only for their own programs or does it apply to the MSU ATP Pilot Operations degree program as well?"


Response is positive for me since I'm going for the MSU ATP degree:

My MSU contact:
"That only applies to non MSU students. While we are still waiting for our official letter from the VA, our plan is to offer VA benefits, totaling about $25,500 per academic year, towards the ATP degree. We expect approval any day."

There is some light in the tunel...
 
mateusz82 thanks for that info, if MSU becomes VA approved then that would be great. My question is, will ATP flight training cost and MSU degree cost become one overall cost? I'm guessing if ATP flight training cost is not included in MSU degree cost then we will still have to come out of pockets for flight training.

Flying is up to 45 hours of "coursework" within the MSU Bachelor's degree. Therefore, the flying with ATP would be part of a "class" for your bachelor's degree. Now that you know that, go back to my post above (#288). That's how the VA will handle it. ;)

I'm going for the A.S. in Airline Transport Professional Pilot Ops degree. Much less coursework and hoping to be done in 3-4 semesters (have PPL and IR plus some of my previous college credits will transfer).

I recomend reading MSU catalog its all explained there.
And this board too, its a gold mine.

Attached is the MSU/ATP suggested course of study, should bring some info.

Aviator in Florida is Chapter 30 & 33 approved, participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, and has a fully-accredited Two-year College on the field. With over 150 students, and the opportunity to stay and teach endless multi-hours I couldn't find a better bang for the buck flight school. Call and ask for Roxanne. Who is your contact if you don't mind me asking? I've been going back and forth with someone at MSU in the last 2 months as well.

The way my MSU contact explained it to me is that the VA will cut one check to MSU, who will then distribute the funds needed for flying directly to ATP, which I would assume is why all the delay...I can only imagine a place like ATP being reluctant to provide training without being guaranteed some $$$ up front. ATP's unwillingness to work with Vet's is appalling, unfortunately here in Chicago, there's no other choices.

Yep. The Pilot degree is the MSU's program. They only use ATP for flight training. Similar to Broward College (uses Aerosim) or other colleges which have local flight schools provide flight training.

I've also asked the MSU rep I've been in contact with if we can use another FBO in lieu of ATP (since ATP doesn't want to support the veterans). The answer was no. Someone in charge over at MSU needs to re-think this partnership with ATP, if they want to start getting a piece of our GI Bill benefits.

Not that it's going to do any good, but I've written my congressional representative about ATP's refusal of GI Bill benefits. If ATP currently accepts other forms of financial aid, I'm not sure it's legal for them to refuse to take the GI bill. That could be considered a form of discrimination... I'm not exactly "Perry Mason" but that seems pretty blatant to me...
 
I can second Jennifer Lamb. She's always responds to my emails within an hour and has been as forthcoming as I can expect...it's a program in its infancy, so they're (MSU) learning too. Flush, I'm pretty sure a school can choose not to accept GI Bill benefits for one reason or another. That would be like telling every mom & pop pt. 61 school they had to adopt a 141 program back in the Montgomery GI Bill 60/40 days.
 
I don't understand why ATP won't work with the VA...it's EASY money. The way the Chapter 33 works now, they pretty much get the money UP FRONT...unless MSU is holding onto the money, which I doubt is the case. The FBO here that works with the community college expects NO money from the student if they go through the school, but if you use the 10K per year, then the student has to front the money. I just honestly don't understand...especially from a BUSINESS POINT OF VIEW why they shut off this VERY GOOD method to making money! Perhaps I should open up an FBO to work with MSU and I would make BANK of the tax payers!!! Anyone in with me?!?

Perhaps we need to just bombarding them with hateful e-mails! :)
