That's what i'm screaming!! As a family man, I'd LOVE a 7 on, 7 off schedule!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Until your kids birthday, your wedding anniversary, kids school play, your family reunion, kids first day of school, etc, etc, etc... falls during that magic 7 you are on the road... 7 on the road once in a while is ok, 7 on the road every other week is way too much!

[/ QUOTE ]

For the weeks when you're working.

Have the kids birthday party early, the aniversery and Christmas too, you're going to miss plenty of school plays and little league games wherever you fly, and scheduale your vacation time for the family reunion.

For the weeks you're off.

Drive your kids to school, take your toddlers to the park, help coach the little league game, durring the summer take your kids on road trips.

No it's not a normal job, but I would look at it like getting 7days of vacation every other week. That's just my view of it, difrent strokes for diffrent folks.

My wife and I had this conversation already, and this is pretty much the same thing we decided. It's great for the future kids. If I'm away, there's a little celebration on the day, and they get to have a second bigger one when I get back. We already combine Xmas with our anniversary since it's only a two day difference. If we have to, we can move it a few more days. It's not the specific day that matters to us, it's who is around us when we celebrate.

Actually the 7/7 isn't that bad. It does take a lot of getting used to and a very strong willed wife. She has been with me since college, and we have both gotten used to me being gone for longer periods. She laughs at wives that come unglued when their husbands are gone for two days

When you look at daytime (awake with the family) hours, I am with the family MORE than most 9-5 mon-friday workers.
My daughter isn't in school yet and my wife stays home. I am with them all day, everyday for 7 days. I pick my son up from school every day and have the rest of the day with him too. This year I am home for everyones birthday (except mine) and my anniversary. Last year I was home for Thanksgiving AND Christmas.

Three times per year I have 21 straight days of vacation, plus any weeks I have to call in sick are 21 straight days also. Last year I was gone less than 120 nights.

As far as the points:
We carry most major airline and hotel point cards. We also carry a airline and/or hotel card that gives extra points per dollar spent elsewhere. In the course of a year, we usually earn 100,000+ airline and a few hundred thousand hotel points. For our anniversary I exchanged points for two first class tickets to Vegas and a few nights on the strip.

Good to go with those, I'll toss you a resume. I don't have much else going on. Be available in a couple of years....

Hey NJA Capt do you make it into JZI (Chalreston Exec.) ever? We seem to have had a good bit of X's in lately and always wonder if you are one of them. I work the line there.

Thanks for the info NJA. I think we could handle the 7/7. In the navy it is more like 14/7 except we have to work during the 7 and have duty all night every 3rd day.

As a family man, I personally can't see how 7 days on (on the road) is considered a good schedule. That's half the month, year, life, away from the wife and children. I'm sure for some guys this is great, but I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't spend two weeks + a month away from my family just cause I want to fly airplanes. It's just a job. Besides there are plenty of other jobs out there with a much better schedule. Just my opinion on the matter, that's all.

The "It's just a job" statement says it all. And be sure to teach your kids to not follow their dreams in deference to being at home a lot, and just having a job. They'll apprecate it later.

I haven't been to JZI for quite a while, but I'll definitely look you up next time. A good friend of mine is going there tonight in an Excel though.

Hey flyover, thanks for the advice. I don't know what I'd do without you! You're can bet your ass, I'll teach my kids that there's more to life than their career. Like LIFE!!

The statement in your profile says it all,......."hobbies, I don't need no stinking hobbies....." Is flying your whole life dude? Sounds like it and if so, I'm sorry.
crazy.gif

I love my career. It's definitely not all it's cracked up to be, but I enjoy the flying and the bennies that come with it. Anyways, you're obviously H.U.A., so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Now, go generalize to someone else.

It's getting pretty funny now as I recognize most Excel crews now. Might not know their names but always something about them that I don't really forget. Seem to recognize a hell of a lot of Ultra crews too as those two a/c seem to come into JZI a good bit.

Two X pilots I can think off the top of my head is the one gentleman with the handle bar mustache who always tips with $2 and a younger guy who is a part time X flier for the owner of the STL Cardinals.

As bag as our pay may seem, it still beats the commuters pay scales as well as some LCCs for the first few years.

I don't know whose pay scales you're looking at, nor the non-1998 scales, but every one of my roommates is making more than a fifth year FO at NetJets. Every one of them is a second year FO at a regional.

Funny how so many people answer questions about fracs when they don't work there.

Falc Capt. I don't answer the questions about your company's pay and benefits. So why do you answer questions about my job?

Yes the pay scale above is correct. It's also from 1998. Yes, we are still in negotiations. Yes, we have been at it for 3 years. Yes, I expect them to exceed yours in the next few months. Yes, people actually used commuters as a stepping stone to NJA. Not the other way around. As bag as our pay may seem, it still beats the commuters pay scales as well as some LCCs for the first few years.

Benefits are relative. We have included med/dental/vision. 50/50 match 401K. Just added loss of lic/loss of medical insurance.

A little side benefit is the airline/hotel miles. I have taken my wife on weeklong vacations to Hawaii and other beaches, two times a year for the last few years. All Hiltons, all free. An aluminum Trek mountain bike from Marriott, and a Sony home theater system from Hilton.

I'm perfectly content and don't plan on leaving. I am also happy with the schedule and QOL.

[/ QUOTE ]

NJA_Capt I've noticed the same thing. FalconCapt always seems to be rubing things in your face. He seems to have the best job in this universe. Whatever man! It comes down to being happy with your QOL. I can care less if he makes millions flying 2 days a year and I fly 204 days a year for $56K If I enjoy my work and life style and my family is happy that's all that matters. I'm prety sure that Netjets and it's pilots are going to reach an agreement soon and the pay will be better. I can bet that Netjets is more secure than most Corporate flight dept. out there. Everybody knows that when •! hits the fan the flight dept. is the numero uno to go...

2 years ago we laid of over 50,000 employees... not one from the flight department... and you were saying... The myth of the Flight Department being the first to go is old news... Years ago when the flight department was nothing more than a perk for the CEO maybe, these days the flight department is an important business tool...

And EEG, people ask about my job, I'll give then an accurate answer... If you think my answer is rubbing it in your face, that isn't my problem, if you don't like the answer don't ask the question...

No sir not my face but it seems you always rub it in the face of NJA_CAPT...Why is that? Why do you always have to rub it in? Big deal! So you get paid more than him and me and probably everybody on ths board put together, but you keep on hating on Netjets.

And by the way I have never asked you a question
