Moscow, Russia (part one, Doug's pix)

I was worried about him flying right seat in a brasilia, I cant even imagine what a mess he will be in russia where the controllers are super hard to understand and procedures are so much different. $65 a day per diem in Russia is NOTHING. The new job(if its for real) seriously cant be with a "prestigious company" if they are lowballing him this bad. This should definately turn into a few interesting threads. Keep us posted pilot754(im sure he will anyways) I cant wait to hear all about this one....

Awesome pics!....I've heard Moscow has an AMAZING subway (among other things)...How was the food?

... my personal north latatude record ...

70North Baby!

Your personal latitude record is more likely something in the neighborhood of 70°05'N.

In fact, if you flew the depicted track, you were north of 70°N latitude the entire time you were between 7000N (70°N/000°W) and 7010N (70°N/010°W). You achieved your record at the midpoint of that leg (approximately 70°05'N/005°00'W), several (approximately 5) nautical miles north of 70°N.

As you know, great circle routes do not follow lines of latitude, but rather "appear to" curve towards the poles. Of course, you already knew that, as it's obvious when you plot the course on the plotting chart.

A cool picture would have been of a HOLD page of your present position as you passed 005°W. ;)

Damn Doug, nice pics, and how much are you paying Delta to fly for them? Great gig if you can get it! You give us all hope!!

That's the most beautiful subway station ever!!

Thanks for the pictures, Doug!
doug was telling me last night that they were the deepest subway stations EVER!! the escalators are really fast and very deep....he mentioned something about all the subway stations being bomb shelters. hearing his description of them, i can see that. I just wonder where they hide all the stale food?! :nana2:

A big block of ice out in the middle of nowhere... I guess that's how the Titanic felt?

I have to admit, that is a really good photo of an iceberg - especially from that high of an altitude - what camera are you using to get such a good shot like that?

Well you just trumped my few lousy pictures of a formation flight and Texas BBQ....by like a ba---zillion miles! Awesome pix though and what a great time!

Actually I never really thought of it (or noticed it on the chart with my whopping 315 hours of ER time)....

Does Delta require the crew to check and plot Present Position 10 minutes time/2 degrees of longitude after each 10 Degree Oceanic waypoint? There was a time when it was not required in the FedEx MD-11, but that didn't last long. It's too easy to be lulled into a sense of false security since our technology is so accurate and reliable, but something as simple as this routine position check can prevent, or at least quickly detect, navigation errors. You'd think we don't have navigation errors, but then we still see the warnings on EVERY SINGLE NAT Track message.

Be careful out there! ;)

We do that check but like I said, haven't really looked that close at the numbers.... you capture the position, plot that position on the chart and low and behold it's on the line.... I guess if it wasn't on the line I'd be looking at the numbers harder but so far the chart line and the magenta line have always lined up (knock on wood).

Moscow's subway system was difficult for me to understand at first, but after gaining some more familiarity with the system, I finally got the gist of it.

The amazing thing about the subway system is how DEEP the escalators go. One of the language speakers we had with us said that they were created to withstand multiple nuclear strikes during the cold war. And I certainly believe it.

The food, hmm, it was ok!

Yup! We're the only carrier doing it, but then we're the carrier with the least amount of gross navigation errors too by far. It's easy and something to do.

Gross nav errors are pretty common! We do a lot of funny procedures and twice already we've caught some pretty bad problems far before they would have been executed. You really can't be too careful out there!

I had some difficulties and AMF was going to give me 3 additional sim sessions after the 6 that were part of the package as pre set. However I had this oportunity which is better and my friend is doing all the training and I took systems in 2 weeks from hi, and will do flight training in the aircraft in Moscow! They fly 80 hrs a month and will get an SIC Type after 25 hrs of flight with him. He is a training capt, check-airmen and sign off authority. I have done all the paper work with the Dept of minestry in moscow. I ride at amf who needs them!

what is this then:
I am having difficulties in the SIM. Was told today they were going to call AMF and give them a progress report and a alert. Checkride is next week on Thursday and now Gary C. is Fully qualified to give them both PIC and SIC Types. The capt with me in training will NOW become a TDY capt on the EMB 120 at any location cause the old capt!!! Took back is old slot. Best wishes and thoughts for I getting through are welcomed!

You were given a better opportunity?? Or an opportunity where you have a Friend with sign-off authiority.

I ask this with all seriousness given your posting history. I know Amflight was not the first place where you had trouble. I won't go through the list of companies where you interviewed and or started class. You know who they are.

Whatever happens, good luck!

ok...we don't get these kind of pictures over on jetgirls...:)...love em!
Is that something you'd like to see over there? more of the *internal* operations? If so, when i travel with him, i could take more of those and include them!:)
