Moscow, Russia (part one, Doug's pix)

Great photo's, Doug. It reminds me of what a beautiful city Moscow is.

As to that 4-engine "Seven-two-ski", isn't that a "Vee Cee-ten-ski" (IL-62)? Looks like she's also missing her engines!

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

In case anyone is wondering, the plane is an Ilyushin Il-86.

Those "three sisters" are cool. I saw the Culture Palace in Warsaw that was of a similar design and was a gift from Stalin.

Was it cold there already?

You couldnt pay me to fly in any "ski". Russian aviation really scares the hell out of me. I dont know why. :panic:

My company is basing me for 6-12 month in Moscow, Russia and fly all over Russia, SW Asia, Europe. I am considering in obtaining the BB 8830 from Verizon. They will unlock it for me once I have it in my hands. They charge with the one card very deep roaming fees of $1.49-2.49 per min. Now I have found this company called oneroam. The website for them is this: http://www.oneroam.com/sim-cards.aspx?m=1&mi=1&ms=0 All you need is swap out the sim card. For example the fees to call within Russia or back to the States .45 cents a min. And around the .60 cents a min in Europe. Free incoming calls and 2 options for friends and family in States call you. Either call you directly free to you or have them use a 1-800 Pass through # free to them you are charged then .35 cents a min.

I am curious how does Iskoot or this work.

I am new to my company finished training and checkride on the Hawker 850 XP.

Thanks.

Verizon CDMA devices have no sim card to swap.

What company are you working for now? I take it Ameriflight didn't work out?

I had a better offer given to me while I was in sim training. Got through with no issues sim training 4 out of 6 sessions. Working for a very prestigious corporate company now pay = 7,000 mo. TAX FREE.

Hawker 850XP passed training and the ride got my white slip and now waiting on visa papers.

$7,000us is not a lot in Moscow if you have to pay for your own housing. With the weak US doller. Moscow is the world's most expensive city.

Company paid house and limo transportation to/from airport and house or condo complex. I pay for my own food/entertainment and subway when not on trips. Company per diem $55.00 USD in some countries while others $65.00. The captains get company paid BB 8830. The Verizon BB8830 is sim swapable.

Doug can you help? Any ideas for those calls back to the states and/or with in the specific country.

If you got through training at amf with no issues why did you post on another thread that you were having difficulties in the sim and that your instructors were calling amf to alert them to your struggles. How did you go from a checkride at amf on 9/7/2007 to fully checked out and ready to fly international in a hawker 13 days later? Something is not adding up here.

Pilot754 in another thread under freight dogs

"I am having difficulties in the SIM. Was told today they were going to call AMF and give them a progress report and a alert. Checkride is next week on Thursday and now Gary C. is Fully qualified to give them both PIC and SIC Types. The capt with me in training will NOW become a TDY capt on the EMB 120 at any location cause the old capt!!! Took back is old slot. Best wishes and thoughts for I getting through are welcomed!

I had some difficulties and AMF was going to give me 3 additional sim sessions after the 6 that were part of the package as pre set. However I had this oportunity which is better and my friend is doing all the training and I took systems in 2 weeks from hi, and will do flight training in the aircraft in Moscow! They fly 80 hrs a month and will get an SIC Type after 25 hrs of flight with him. He is a training capt, check-airmen and sign off authority. I have done all the paper work with the Dept of minestry in moscow. I ride at amf who needs them!

This post makes it sound like you already passed the flight training, which one is it? And maybe I'm an idiot but how can you recieve flight training in an aircraft that requires two typed crewmembers? They must do things a little different in Mother Russia huh.

Awesome pics. I hope you liked my home town. The metro station with the soilder is Krasnoplesenskaya. It was used as an underground military HQ during WWII. The Russian Vegas you referred to is Novye Arbat (new Arbat) and behind it is starye Arbat (old Arbat). Looks like you are eating at one of the cafes there with the flight attendants.

Next time I will have to come along and give a tour. :) Thanks for posting the pics.

I have flown on Russian aircraft, TU-154M to be exact and I found the experience to be very pleasant. The aircraft was well maintained (to western standards) and the crew was friendly. Is it different?...YES but that does not mean bad or unsafe. The aircraft was operated by Aeroflot and they are part of Delta's sky team. Also, they passed all western safety audits. Just my $.02. Try it out.

What ride did you take? In one post you say you have a type and in your next one you don't have one.

Russia (and Ukraine) are beautiful, I've been to Ukraine twice now, and think that the whole area is just absolutely gorgeous, and the people amazing, good pics.
