Min days off at a Legacy/Major

I can't wait to see the look on the captains face when I ask to fly because I actually need to.
Kinda funny when your 90 day currency is about to expire and you fly a 190.

I actually had that happen a few weeks back. My currency was going to expire on the 20th. Recurrent wasn't until the 28th. I have a sneaky suspicion that's why I even got assigned a trip....

Yea, it's like the high mins tag. I think when we get marked for proficiency flying, we should also get a trophy. After a few trophies we should be inducted into some sort of hall of fame.

In the last 40 days I have only flown 2 on reserve as a long call. Been sitting at home. Reserve here is so transparent, you can easily see when you are going to go or not. Personally, unless staffing levels come down, I don't ever plan on bidding a regular block, ever.

I hear min days off is suppose to increase to 13 but it's kinda meaningless to me, I'd rather have less "guaranteed" days off and more actual "on call but didn't work" days off.

The QOL difference between here and my old commuter is just eye opening. And I don't even live in base yet. I can't wait 'till then.
What base? When I was on long call reserve last year I would always get transitioned to short. They still doing that a lot?

Actually now that you mention that, I remember the Jetcareers "newsletter" 9/11 edition mentioning something to that effect.

Back when there was a newsletter instead of a forum, of course!

Damn -- time flies. o_O
I didn't even solo until the year after that.

PHL

It was bad at the beginning of the summer. PHL finally got built up and staffed in August and made it a lot better. CLT and DCA hardly ever get transitioned, but I'd be short call at either base.

I think after about a year of hiring you're pretty safe to bid an R and not get transitioned much but PHL is definitely a gamble. It's the only thing I got right now though.

Alaska Airlines. No. of lines/days off by domicile:

At Spirit: 13 days for a line; 12 days for reserve 30 day months and 13 days for 31 day months; 15 days for a relief line. To the max extent possible blocks of 5 consecutive days off in domicile with no less than 4 consecutive days off in domicile.

The 5 days off language needs improvement...."max extent possible" just leaves them way too much flexibility to not schedule 5 off. That said, it's still way better than just about anyone else out there! :D

Is it hard to get all weekends off? It would seem like the only way to do that is 2 on 5 off all month?

Yeah, I don't know of any lines that have ALL weekends off. So in that regard, it's nice for the junior people because even they get some weekends off and the pain is spread around a little more evenly when everyone works at least one weekend a month.

Most lines are 5 or 6 on followed by 4 or 5 days off so you are always working some weekend. The only exception are the redeye trips, those are three (four really) on and 4 or 5 off.

Although I've only been a reserve pilot and I'm scheduled to "work" weekends, I can only recall working two weekends out of the last four months. The other times I was on reserve (short call variety no other kind at spirit) during the weekend, just wasn't called out so it's almost as good as being off in my book.

But mostly I've been able to conflict reserve days during month-to-month transitions and end up getting 3-6 additional days off in addition to the normal 12- or 13- days off that comes with a reserve line, and a few months because of the transition conflict I've gotten 10 to 11 days off in a row during the beginning of the month.
