Midwest divorces SkyWest; more funding from RAH

Re: Or...

Ummm, okaayyy.......yeeaaah Peeeetter.....I'm going to go ahead and say, uh, Noooo. Ummm, the, uh, reee-gionals are just a polishing of the commuter turd, Ooooo Kay? And I'm going to make sure you have a copy of that memo....

I will submit that the "RJ" label stuck from Ski-doo's marketing campaign of the stretched Lear tube.

:)

Lesson learned.

To read things from the eastern half of the U.S., it makes it sound like Midwest kicked Skywest to the curb.

To read the Salt Lake papers, it sounds like just the opposite.

A little bit of spin, anyone?

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Re: Or...

Looks like more and more pilots will have to plan on a career on Regional wages.

The more and more I read what you say, the more I get the feeling you just aren't very accepting to change. The industry in it's current "state" is "young". All of the things that are going on right now are actually very predictable. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that complain and ignore the signs right in front of them. If there was something you could do to stop what is happening, surely you would. But instead, you choose to complain to the people "below" you that "just don't get it". Surely, anybody would like to have exactly what they want. However, we cannot have our every wish granted because we are a society with different ideas. If you have some good advice (surely you must), I know there are some that would like to hear it. If you don't, share your feelings because it's your right and people like me can just feel sorry for you. In the mean time, I'm going with patience and persistence. It's gotten me to where I'm at in life and made me a happy person. I don't spend my time making sarcastic comments to the many new pilots I encounter out here, TDY (many of them naive). I share my experiences and failures and let them decide how they want to run their life. It's worked for me and although I see the conflict in their eyes when they realize things aren't what they always dream of, they still strive to be happy, just like me. I hope they will pay it forward and guide the following group when they arrive.

The original article only quoted Midwest, and the SL Trib only quoted Skywest. There's spin in both articles. It would be foolish to think that either one "kicked the other to the curb." What the original article didn't show is that Midwest hasn't been paying Skywest, and at this point it's easier just to forget about the whole deal. Republic is willing to give them more money than Skywest, so SKW said have a go at it.

There ya go. Truth from the inside, from someone who knows

That's something I'd be willing to believe.
Thanks.

With the spin I've seen in the airline industry and the sewage called reporting about the Middle East, I really have no trust for the mainstream media anymore at all.

I was wondering if the $6M went right to Skywest for back payments and to call it quits.

Re: Or...

I'm fairly certain that they will, but who knows. By the time you hit game 7 it's anybody's cup ya know?

The cup is home where it belongs.

the dust has settled, and once again, Pittsburgh is home to the champions!!:rawk::rawk::rawk:

Hey weren't you a Regional pilot once?

Yes, and I wasn't one of the guys hoping for the "opportunity" to fly bigger airplanes at my crappy regional. I was trying to make it a better place to work, but still trying to get out to go fly bigger airplanes where they belong: at the mainline carriers.

I think that's exactly what everyone is trying to do. They just don't have the same career aspirations as you and they won't change them for you. You did fly a regional jet, right?

Dude, it's saturday, don't goad!

Karma, bro, karma.

Not trying to be a jerk, just leading to point in less boring manner than usual. I'm completely fine with ATN's career path. It's his choice and I respect that. What's this Saturday stuff? It's Sunday over here! I just can't relate with you Saturday folks!

When I'm on the road, I rarely know what day it is. I swear it was Saturday. Man, I guess I'm all turned around.

Don't feel bad. I've been deployed for over a month and I still don't know what time it is. I just follow everybody to work, to lunch and back to the dorms.

I found this article to be a little more enlightening to the details... And it's from the East.

Associated Press
SkyWest to end service for Midwest Airlines
Associated Press, 06.10.09, 04:25 PM EDT

NEW YORK -- SkyWest Inc. said Wednesday it will stop operating regional service for Midwest Airlines, after the St. George, Utah-based carrier said financial troubles at Midwest were dragging down its bottom line.

The pair said they have reached a mutual agreement to end their airline services agreement. Under the deal, SkyWest ( SKYW - news - people ) agreed to cancel the unsecured note from Midwest of about $9.3 million in exchange for a $4 million payment.

The payment is expected to be paid in increments of $400,000 for each aircraft SkyWest takes back from Midwest.

SkyWest currently has 12 remaining regional jets in service for Milwaukee-based Midwest. The first is expected to be removed from service at Midwest this month; the last three are expected to be taken back in January 2010.

SkyWest said it is looking to place those planes back in service, possibly through deals with other carriers.

The company operates SkyWest Airlines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines and runs flights under the United Express and Delta Connection names.

Last year, Midwest was hit hard by soaring fuel prices and the economic recession. In July 2008, it announced it was cutting service by about 30 to 40 percent to save cash and 1,200 jobs - about 40 percent of its then 3,000-plus work force.

SkyWest shares lost 29 cents, or 2.8 percent, to close Wednesday at $10.04.

You have to give it up to the owners of AWAC. They've been pretty good over the past decade or so with picking their contracts. First the UAL fee-for-departure setup, then switching to US Airways and making half a bil just on the stock alone, etc. Let's hope they can continue it.
