Midwest divorces SkyWest; more funding from RAH

As someone said there is plenty more than meets the eye. I have a funny feeling that Delta aka "TPG" has a hand in this. BB and Co. wouldn't be throwing all this money into an operation that is about to go bankrupt. As much as we like to think that we know all that is aviation, I am pretty sure the people investing millions into these companies are more "in the know" than we are. It may seem like Midwest is on its deathbed but as soon as Delta announces a big code share agreement things change. It also could just be these guys taking huge risks and it may be over in 6 months I just have a hard time believing that.

I don't like the fact that BB goes out and essentially buys his way into airline service contracts, but you can't argue with success. It's also no secret that he wants Republic to be a stand-alone airline. IMO, this is what he sees as the gateway for that. Which is easier? Starting your own airline from scratch or buying into one that already has an established route structure, customer base and reservation system?

I don't like the fact that he is paying for contracts either but who knows what they know and I don't. As for RAH being a stand alone carrier I think you may be onto something, however I don't think BB wants to market his own product. I think he wants to supply the plane and the aircraft yet let someone else (expedia, midwest, any company) do the marketing. We will see.

Well...I guess I'll be flying the routes again. I wasn't mad at SkyWest for doing the routes I was doing at Skyway and I hope the SkyWest folks aren't mad about this. I wish them well. If anybody over there needs a reference, I'm here. I know some of you helped me when Skyway shut down.

Delta doesn't control TPG, and is not allowed to have operational control over Midwest. As much as everyone thinks that Delta orchestrated this, it was inherited from NWA, and in actuality, Delta was mad at NWA getting in bed with Midwest in the first place. They wanted Airtran tied up in a merger as that would have made them vunerable in ATL.

Midwest Resumes Non-Stop Flights to LA

Originally printed at http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/47776112.html
MILWAUKEE - Midwest Airlines is planning to resume non-stop service between Milwaukee and Los Angeles later this year. The airline will also add service to Louisville and will add seasonal service to Fort Meyers. Midwest is also adding a flight in Indianapolis.
The service to LA will start on August 1st. The airline plans to use new Embraer 190 jets that will be flown by Republic Airways. Those planes have 10 of the airline's wide leather seats and 84 smaller seats.
The service to Louisville will start August 2nd. The airline will fly that route with a 37-seat Embraer 135 aircraft.

Service to Indianapolis starts July 7th.

Midwest plans to resume seasonal service to Ft. Meyers on November 19th and continue that through April 19, 2010.

So. . .Midwest isn't doing jack? It's Republic that's doing it.

The media is so damn clueless.

MKE to LAX huh? Quite the upgrade for a regional company. Bravo.

Holy crap, MKE to LAX in an E190 flown by a regional???

We used to have a XJT 145 leave IAD to IAH at the same time I left in the E170. I'm glad I had a head in the front. I know the E145 lav would get full from LGA to IND.

So, I think there are plenty of "regionals" that are doing 3/4 transcons, at least there were a couple years ago when I was out puttering around.

Though we were told it was a mutual decision, the way our management put was something like: "They like what we're doing but they ain't bringing in the bank so we OUT yo!".

I think 2 or 3 CR2s will we be out of the Midwest side this summer to start, and by 2011 the plan is for none of our CRJs to have that awesome paint scheme.

You think thats crazy, Republic does MKE-LAX right now in an E170, and has been since the MD-80s were retired. I'm pretty surprised the E190s are going to Republic, I thought those were going mainline.

Don't forget BOI, and California from IAH.

Out of EWR they do OKC, TUL, and NAS. Crazy.

Didn't you guys do LAX-SEA for DL too?

LAX-SEA, yeah. And to DEN. And LAX-OKC, LAX-YVR. And SFO! And PHX. All the routes were like UAL mainline routes out of LAX. But the longest two were LAX to Ixtapa and Acapulco.

I blocked 4:37 on Ixtapa - LAX one time. That's a long time in an EMB-145!

Republic does not do MKE-LAX now.

When I was a fueler in 2000, Eagle was doing numerous ERJ MKE-DFW flights a day. CoEx was doing numerous ERJ MKE-IAH flights a day. Those flights were usually topped off. I can imagine there were other, similar routes. You could have easily thrown a 737 or MD-80 in there, but the airlines wanted to offer more departures. The mainline wasn't interested in flying multiple, 50 seat departures. In years since, there have been numerous opportunities for the airlines to use financial leverage to force mainline to allow the company to outsource even more seats. Maybe it's time for another change of nomenclature instead of trying to hang on to the current titles.
