Mid-air over Denver....

I told him I didn’t care what he was doing, just that he shouldn’t be doing it up on the wing, it’s an injury hazard. Not knowing how/where to grab and climb I was more worried he’d take a header.

So I held his bag of weed and pipe and helped him climb down, while the other 3 guys laughed their butts off that the senior guy was the one holding all the drugs.

I’m not a commander, I’m just god damned old.

I actually just got the news from that where I’m headed. “I’m sticking you in this unit because they are very new guy heavy.” Like dammit... When did I become the old man, and more importantly who thought I should have that role as the senior voice of reason.

Runway 14 at KBFM and runway 34 at KHKS are the same way.

I'm hoping Mississippi gets it's act together and rejuvenate Jackson. The area around HKS is pretty bad. I won't get into the politics of it, but there is no reason for the vast majority of the state capital to be so downtrodden.

I did a precautionary landing there with a pair of scary green Army helicopters. Number 2 had a gear box chip light literally right after we passed the place joking about how middle of nowhere it was.

Somebody was nice enough to lend me a phone to call our ops officer and tell him “you aren’t going to believe where I am right now Sir...”

Funniest part was walking across the airfield that night to find a kid perched up on the wing of my aircraft smoking the biggest water pipe he could carry with a freezer bag full of weed.

What a great cross country.

So, how many days did you vacation... were you stuck there?

About 36 hours from landing to getting a maintenance pilot out to us to switch out the chip detector.

The Vietnam Vet that owned a bed and breakfast there though hooked us up with the government rate for ocean side balcony view.

Like I said it was a great cross country trip. This was after I got tasked to the be police it up mission commander for all the broken aircraft, so I’d already spent 3 nights in Oregon trying to limp the last elements of the battalion down to where they needed to be.

Agreed. I did my primary training at HKS, and the area wasn’t good, but geeze the city has gotten worse and worse.
