Mesa pilots and plywood

Was this on the Shorts? Tell me it wasn't on something like a Jetstream or something similiar. Shorts or an ATP seem able to be made somewhat comfy.

This was on the ATR (the only US carrier to fly the ATP was UFS) and the EMB. It was really quite comfortable. Far more comfy than sleeping on two office chairs pushed together in the crew lounge in LGA like I had to many times commuting when the couches were all occupied.

I have heard that the guys and gals at Regions Air have to pay for their own accomodations if an aircraft is MX-ed. I wouldn't put it past that company.

They Dont pay for unscheduled layovers in base....Just like Comair, one of the soposed "best contracts" in the industry.

I would think that would be a logical conclusion......:D

And a wrong one. Mesa's training is the same as any other regional. MAPD, on the other hand, is a totally seperate entity that has an agreement with Mesa. It would be like saying Pinnacle has bad marketing b/c of JetU.....

777, I understand you backing the ATP instructors b/c of the ME time, but what about guys like me (I had nearly three times as much ME time from instructing than a lot of guys in my new hire class) or someone from Ari? They probably have just as much as an ATP instructor.

Ouch. The fact that Comair does that is a surprise (not really) too. I guess their guys are bailing out of the sinking ship becasue they are hiring I guess.

Hardly any airline pays for your hotel room for an unscheduled overnight at your base city. It is after all, your BASE CITY. It's a terrific perk if the company does pay for a hotel there, but there's not many places that have that!

Our company pays for unscheduled layovers in hub (and base-city hub) if you are in the middle of a pairing. Sometimes, if you are between pairings and they still have pre-paid hotel rooms, you might get lucky and get one too if you call and ask nicely.

I have slept on the ERJ. Not overnight, but with a two-hour sit due to a ground delay program, I have laid out to catch a cat nap. Nothing wrong with that. I don't expect the company to find me a hotel and a bed for a two-hour sit. But, if I was on a layover, you betcha I'd expect them to find me proper accomodations to get rest.

Yeah, I think of ATP and Ari as in the the ballpark training wise. They both provide excellent ME time. How did you build your ME time? Many pilots struggle to pick up ME time and I certainly dont want to pay for a ME time-builder thats why I really hope to get in at ATP, if I don't I'm looking to head to Pan Am China

The big question is, do the pilots get reimbursed for the plywood! :D

Yep I didn't go to ATP and was hired with 550 hours total time and about 107 hours of multi.

Am I ok?
Of course I think you're ok. Some pilots on here might think you are low time though.

O when you say the next contract, I would bet A LOT of money that if the Mesa contract does not improve DRASTICALLY they will be striking. You going to cross the picket line 777?
Yup I would definitely strike if work rules did not change drastically.

OK. But again, why the revelation? Cause?

Does someone have a gun to your head right now and are forcing you to type?

After reading the horror stories on airlinepilotcentral.com I don't think any normal person would not have a revelation. Like Kellwolf said its more than just dollar dollar bill ya. I still think the money in the industry is good after the 1st year, unless you are getting shafted like at MESA. I know this will all change with the next contract.

I don't think the money is bad after first year, either, especially once you make captain. But, there is more to it than money. I think we both have come to realize that lately. I would rather make less at a regional that can offer me a good QOL, than more at a regional that has terrible work rules, and treats their employees like crap. I had no idea that at Mesa, if you are flying a one hour trip, that gets delayed an hour, and then has to wait for a gate for an hour, they only paid you for that hour, not the three hours. That is BS, and I wouldn't stand for that.

I still think this is a good career, with good money, salary wise, it is just takes a crystal ball to know where to be. What may be the best place today, could be the worst tomorrow. Mesa may be a very desirable place to be, after the new contract.

Ummmm the requirement for most US flightschool including ATP are a pulse and a large check. Or ability to get said large check. If you got any of those requirements you're good....

I mean to get in a CFI at ATP after doing their CFI program. Will never have to worry about Multi-time if I get the job.

Just talked to a Mesa jumpseater today. He said they no longer sleep on the airplanes and each get their own hotel rooms each night. As it happens, he was on his way to do a CDO tonight.

Did he mention anything about only getting paid average hour?

On the CLT ramp a few weeks ago, there was a really really bad series of storms. It was so bad they shut down all arrivals and departures for around 2 hours.

If you were unlucky enough to push (like we were), the ramp was also closed during this time due to lighting in the area.

Anyway, for two hours there were a bunch of US air mainline, awac, PSA, and mesa aircraft on the ramp. Sometime in the middle of the storm, someone quips:

"Looks like mesa's working for free today!"

Hopefully their next contract will improve. If you don't have people like CFIse voting it probably will. Somehow I think JO will screw the group over, showing losses via Go! that will weaken the employees' position though.
