Mesa pilots and plywood

Former Maddog Whisperer
Flightinfo is reporting that some Mesa pilots have been seen in PHX carrying plywood boards around on their bags. According to some, they do this so they can make a "bed" in the back of an RJ for standups where they don't get hotels. Allegedly they use it to bridge the gap between seats over the aisle. More importantly is this true that Mesa pilots are forced to sleep in the back of an airplane during "stand up" overnights? Am I just being super gullible?

I heard this as well - if someone has a photo of it, I'd love to send it to my friend who writes for the Dallas Morning News. I'd love to convince him to write a story on the •ty conditions these guys at the regionals face.

Agreed. The public needs to know this kind of crap. I think that if people knew pilots were sleeping in airplanes with little or no sleep they might be a bit disturbed.

I don't know about the plywood but my buddy who was an RJ checkairman there before I helped him get on at UPS told me about a standup he used to do in SBA. They had like 3+59 and the hotel threshold was like four hours, something like that. It sounded pretty bad.

Oh but everyone should go to Mesa they're the 111!!!oneoneone!!!111one.

The pay isn't as bad as many people think and who cares about their horrible work rules. I'm willing to put up with them to be making $80k as a second year captain. And be building PIC time while you pukes are still flying around the pattern building hours. Sometimes you gotta put up with crap to get to the majors faster. Keep your eyes on the prize!

MAX!!! you drinking this early in the day again????

Good one Max....I am waiting for the pictures of the sleeping accomdations for Mesa.

About those sleeping conditions I'm sure that Mesa pilots have bad backs. If they really have to take ply wood with them they're doing their part to help the company keep cost down. Every pilot should be willing to do cost saving measures like this for the company. It might suck but after all you're making $80k as a captain in 2-3 yrs. Salaries don't just stay at the $20k level forever they go up.

I'm not sure why you guys keep bitching about salaries at the regional level...oh and ATP,Gulfstream and JetU rock man!!!

I know from multiple people can confirm this from Mesa. One guy came over to Ameriflight from Mesa after getting typed in the Dash. Mesa sounds brutal in thousands of ways. They actually make you freeze your ass off while huddled on the floor ailse while trying to get a snooze in Grand junction. Also they dont pay for all sorts of stuff like weather cancelations, ANY delay, and they pay for average flight times (OMG!). That means that you might have a ground hold of an hour a flight of an hour, then have to hold for an hour, and maybe have to wait for 20 minutes for a gate. Total time 3 hours and 20 minutes...total pay.... one hour. Plus they charge 50 bucks to interview there....who in their right mind would even think about going to that scumshop?

Who would want to go there...777forever. But yea they don't get paid for any cancelations...sucks. Anyways I'm done with all the mocking, time to go to work!

:)

He's being facetious.....referencing a specific kool-aid drinker here that frequents said viewpoints.

I was thinking it was because the parents are away (D&K), the kids will play. Either that, or someone slipped kool-aid into his morning drink.

I just supposedly made some type of insinuation about Mesa and their pilot training program and I got bombarded from everyone.

Is it safe for me to say in this thread that if the rumors are true and they're sleeping on plywood then their training program is ridiculously over-priced?:whatever: :)

I would think that would be a logical conclusion......:D
