Mesa getting desperate: PACE requirements down to 200 TT !!!

exactly! If you still cant put together the fact that 200 hour pilots equal lower pay for pilots, you need to take econ 101 all over again.

Just because they've lowered their "standards" or mins to 200 doesn't mean they're actually a) getting any applicants or b) getting enough.

I can stand on the side of the street and say I have three testicles, and that I have a line of people waiting to pay me millions of dollars for my story. Doesn't mean any of it's actually true.

Um......yeah.......that's an interesting way to explain it.:yup:

I think they'll probably have to make PACE free due to lack of applicants, but they'll still try to make people sign a contract for it. JO raising pay = never

This sounds dangerous. I was on the Mesa site and they have all this news of flying in Hawaii and just signed a deal with China. Would they be sending the low time hires there?

I really don't know anything about MESA, but would this program be at all worth it for someone right out of undergrad, who can afford the 12-15k cost without debt?

What are the pro's and con's of Mesa? (Seriously)

Reading their site is bad for you....

But 200 TT? Wow, Ima go fly teh ceeearejay after high school!!!11!!!!11

FWIW, MAPD is now putting its grads directly into ground school at Mesa without an interview. Apparently they are really short of pilots, and it's not because they are growing. Hmmm....

Quick, where is my thread about scholarships at these schools......just wait, its going to happen!

Maybe it's attrtion to all those SkyWest interview sessions at the Double Tree across the parking lot from HQ!:rotfl:

Sounds like Mesa is the joke of the regional industry? Is it because of the terrible pay, schedules, and how they treat their pilots?

Is their PACE program something to consider, or is it pointless

Its pointless.

Unless you like spending your nights sleeping on a piece of plywood with your head on a seat cushion full of beer farts

Mesa's pilot payscale is okay, but the quality of life sucks. I worked for Mesa in the Ops center and I heard and saw on a daily basis who much the pilots anf FA's are abused and jerked around. I have almost 400 TT and I would not even try to get into the cockpit of a CRJ! But there are those who bring the bar down even farther by sucumbing to SJS (Shiny Jet Syndrome) and flying at the regional level at 300 TT. That's why pay at the regional level sucks. There is always someone out there that will fly for pennies instead of dollars.

This is going to sound totally wrong.....But whether you should, and whether you can, are two different things. (like I said, that definately sounds wrong; and I agree. I wouldn't want my family riding a jet with a twenty two year old 250TT in the right seat). That said. Does Mesa PACE program produce what it claims? Are they really putting 91% of these guys through with those mininum hours?

Furthermore. What does the rest of the aviation industry think about pilots who flew for Mesa? Are they hireable when they move on? Is flying a CRJ with Mesa the same as flying a CRJ with anyone else in terms of getting hired?

I'm note sure on the the new demographics witht he new requirments. Bog and SFLAX can answer you question better than I since one is a current pilot and Bog just left to fly corporate/charter.

It's not like being at HoJets, where your pretty much a scab. Mesa guys have been jumping ship to SkyWest in droves as well as to other regionals, FedEx and SWA. There is a training contrat that stipulates that if you leave before a certain time you will pay back Mesa for your training. How much depends on when you leave before that specified time.

I inquired, and apparently, it was a one-time thing.

You still have to interview upon completion.

The case you are talking about was some MAPD grads who had an interview scheduled, but there was a class date before their scheduled interview, and it had openings that Mesa desperately needed to get filled. Hence, they were just thrown in there without interviewing. A one-time deal, for in the future, you still have to interview upon completion of MAPD.

Just talkin numbers, for 2006, of the 66 MAPD people who went through the program, 61 got hired. 92% success rate.

I'm not commenting no whether this proram is right or wrong, just giving the numbers.

You can get hired at many places after Mesa. Skywest, Fedex, UPS, Southwest, just to name a few.

Sadly, no one cares where you went so as long as you get your 1000+ Part 121 turbine PIC.

It's ALL who-you-know!

Plenty of UPS pilots on airlinepilotforums and flightinfo forums have confirmed that GoJet pilots have been hired at UPS. There was also one who got hired from GoJets to Continental (again, he had an inside connection).

So what it boils down to is you can go to any regional today and still get hired with a legacy/major if you know the right people.

However, for your own sake/good, don't go to GoJets.

Aside from chitty work conditions, turbine time is turbine time, no? And it sounds like this is the fastest route.
