That said. Does Mesa PACE program produce what it claims? Are they really putting 91% of these guys through with those mininum hours?
Historically, the average pass rate is somewhere in the 70%-80% range for the PACE'ers. The PACE guys/gals honestly aren't nearly as strong as the ab initios in their flying skills as well as general knowledge.
They might have had a better semester than others, either due to the quality of graduates or Mesa's lowering of the "bar" to accept more people to fill seats, but average is much lower than than 90% for PACE.
Aside from chitty work conditions, turbine time is turbine time, no? And it sounds like this is the fastest route.
I know it seems hard to fathom, but in my personal opinion it would be much better and faster in the long run to find a good school to do your ratings at and then CFI there. You will make much more money, build more time, and have much better control over your schedule while building time to move to the next level. Yes, turbine time is turbine time, but let me say this. Chances are if you are hired @ Mesa at 200-220 hours, you will only log 300-500 hours in that first year (which you have to stay a year because of the training contract). Every single entry level regional that will hire you from Mesa will also hire you from your CFI/135 job! Turbine time when you have 600-1000 TT doesn't mean much because the only place you can go from there with those few amount of hours is another regional.
The other option is to instruct at a good school. You will fly considerably more, I flew almost 1000 hours in 12 months as a CFI. You will also earn considerably more money if you are at a good school, and you will have much better control over your schedule. After <1 year of doing that, you can have your pick of regionals to go to.
Which sounds better to you?
The only people that think Mesa's programs were a good opportunity were the people that were hired at low time and have no idea what a good instructing job is like and have no idea how weak the Mesa contract really is compared to other companies.
