Well, remember, the rebels did take over some military bases. I don't know what equipment was there but the POTENTIAL combination of untrained rebels and sophisticated military equipment is a bad one.
 
I'm guessing that at least four parties will conduct investigations (Malays, Dutch, Russians and Ukrainians), none will have access to all information, and each may reach very different conclusions. @MikeD is that how you see this happening?

Alot of the talk I am hearing on talk radio is around 'who would actualy be willing to go into and caontrol the accident site?' It is in an area that is not controled by any governing body. If the seperatists did the shooting would they relinquish control of the area? It's a vicious cycle going round and round.
 
I'm convinced that the rebels there shot down the 777. More than one source was bragging about shooting down an AN26, then removed their posts once it was discovered it was a 777.

I'm not going to read through what is already 8 pages--wow!--on this tragedy. My own political feelings, as my avatar shows, lean against blaming Russia or the forces on Eastern Ukraine, but I am not going to become so prejudiced that I become blind to the truth, though that is not to say I will simply believe an anti-Russian investigation result. I really do not trust Kiev's investigation I will say but let's keep it at that. Whatever the case is right now it is a tragedy. Let's hope the investigating countries can put aside their political feelings for the sake of truth. Which country has the best investigating agency? If I recall Russia's aviation safety is not good in comparison with the US, nor the Malays. Ukraine seems in too much turmoil to have a very stable investigating agency. How is the Dutch agency then?
 
The images are horrifying. I flipped on the news for just a second and they were showing the images of (pixelated) bodies all over the ground, some still strapped to seats. Why on earth would they show that!? Also saying that a lot of the plane might still be in tact, meaning the crash was somewhat controlled?

I see them requesting either Brit AAIB help or US NTSB help for the technical portions of the investigation. The criminal portions, if there are indeed any, will be another matter.
 
So I am listening to talk radio on msnbc and the tape delay is not working.

Reporter: We have a Colonel John doe calling from the Ukraine, lets talk with him
Reporter: So you were on the ground in hte Ukraine and saw a missile?
Caller: Yes, I saw something sailing across the sky and hit the plane. It was like a blast of air from Howard Sterns' ass
Reporter: So you saw something in the sky hit the aircraft?
Caller: What? Are you a dumb-ass or something?
Reporter: Ok filks, we will be back after a short break.

Reporter: Ok we thought we an eye-witness on the line, Obviously that wasnt the case...... :D

At least they had the decency to blur it on the US media. I stumbled on a Russian feed online that wasn't censoring anything. Kinda wish I hadn't seen it.
