Malaysian 777 Plane Crashes in Ukraine

This could very well have been an misidentification, rather than an targeted, known act. As civilian airliners getting shot down accidently isn't unheard of. Iran Air 655 comes to mind.

The bigger question is, if this was Russian separatists, when did they get the potential systems needed to do something like this?

I don't see this being a major game changer in the situation over there, other than the increased pressure on Russia to stop supplying whatever and whenever to so-called rebel forces.

Could you imagine if this jet was carrying a more "first world" flag though?

NBC reporting MH17 was NORDO for a "significant period of time" while over Ukraine.

I've asked it elsewhere, but WHY or how would the separatists need SAM tech that can reach that altitude, in my uneducated mind it's simply not practicable for the type of war they're fighting.
