Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

What do we look for?
Go to Malaysia.

Go to 1640Z on the playback option (Left side)

You can watch MAS370 depart and follow it to last contact.

I was wondering if any other aircraft were in the area.

The last data point is roughly 113nm from the receiver in Kota Bharu, which seems pretty far for ADS-B (I guess?).

Edit: Eh, I'm dumb, there are other stations that seem to be tracking all the way across.

Trying to look/peruse at various Asian sources and saw these tidbits now: Vietnam media quote Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat saying military radar recorded #MH370 crashing into sea 153 miles south of Phu Quoc island and also that China has sent in two ships to search. Again, can't verify anything. My thoughts with the crew, pax and families. Damn shame.

  • Speaking on CNN's AC360, MAS Operations Control Vice President Fuad Sharuji said they 'have no idea where the aircraft is right now'.

"We tried to call this aircraft through various means," he was quoted as saying. Sharuji told CNN that the aircraft was carrying 7.5 hours of fuel at the time of its disappearance (2.40am).

CNN also spoke to retired American Airlines Capt. Jim Tilmon who said the route taken by the aircraft had plenty of antennae, radar and radios for contact and that the plane was 'as sophisticated as any commercial airplane could possibly be with an excellent safety record'.

I'm just citing a source on yahoo news Malaysia who is reporting that the Vietnamese Navy has confirmed that the plane cashed into the sea. No need to hijack the thread and make this important developing story about religion!

Religion? I think that was an injection of sarcasm!

I can only imagine what the families are going thru in all this...some pics up on BBC of family members showing up to the airport really makes you think about the enormity of the disaster...a lot of people affected by this one. :(

I'm still blown away that in this day and age, large commercial aircraft continue to go missing. You would think they would be uploading all sorts of parameters - starting with their position - every couple minutes or so.

Agreed, it seems like it would have to be some sort of explosion just to disappear out of nowhere

Even if the plane went down in the sea, let us still hope for the best. I am positive the flight attendants instructed everybody about the life jackets, oxygen masks, evacuation slides, and life rafts before the flight.

Crossing a FIR boundary in this region without talking to an ATC is not common but it happens sometimes. I doubt that they would have crossed the Chinese FIR without talking to anyone and no military jet was dispatched. I just hope the best...and i hope i am wrong!
