Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

How big of a challange would it be to land an airplane this size on a strech of roadway somewhere? I know the former USSR purposely overbuild their roads to use as makeshift airstrips for their air force. Could they land and take off on a road someplace to remain under the radar?

They probably could, but how would they keep the passengers from making phone calls, especially if the plane had operational satellite phones? How would they keep everybody from seeing a 777 fly low overhead then land on a road? where would they put it?

Good Lord, CNN broke out the graphics of a 777 cockpit and a CGI of a 777. They have also managed to interview an all star cast of airline pilots featuring Les Abend and Patrick Smith.

No doubt the graphics were screen captures of of the MS Flight Sim 777. If Miles O'Brian had been the reporter, the reporting would have been so much more authentic. He would have used grabs from X-Plane. ;)

CNN depicted the FDR & CVR as being in the APU, and this evening they were still reporting that the engines had sent signals to Rolls Royce. The WSJ corrected that this afternoon - this is on their Web site: "Some people briefed on the issue initially described the transmissions as information that had been relayed from onboard monitoring systems embedded in the two Rolls-Royce PLC Trent 800 engines, not the idling satellite communications system."

Given historical hijacking, someone with intricate knowledge of the 777 hijacked this airplane, or at least knew certain systems had to be off... having pilots hijack the plane is hardly a stretch given recent events

New retirement plan? ... I wonder what I could get on dark-net Ebay for those 777 maintenance manuals in the storage locker?? I'm starting to think whoever really invented Bitcoin now has a shiny new aiplane.

There any nations/rogue groups within that 4 hour distance ring that are hostile to either Malasia or China?

Not sure about China, but this guy hates the Malaysian Prime Minister.

So lets just say (hypothetically) that the aircraft was hijacked.

Why would hijackers be silent this long? Wouldn't they demand something by now? Same with any terrorist groups. If they blew it up wouldn't they claim it by now?

This is just odd.

Why would terrorists take a plane from a muslim country? Wouldn't they create more terror taking a non-believers plane?

Craig Button stole an A-10 in broad daylight west of Tucson, and took it at very low level east of Casa Grande, and over the eastern side of Mesa/Apache Junction and out of the lakes northeast of the PHX metro area......all VERY populated areas.......and NO ONE remembered seeing an A-10 jet passing over all of these rural/semi-urban (at the time) areas at extreme low level, in the middle of the afternoon, on his way to Colorado.

So it's entirely possible.

Maybe practicing reverse psychology as a new form of terrorism.... :)

But fair point.

Still, no word if terrorism...no demands, etc.

What an incredibly racist thing to insinuate.

Not racist. Malaysia is a Muslim country. They are a threat to no one. Why would they be a target of terrorism? What would be the point of perpetuating terror against a country that already practices Islam? The point of terror attacks against the West is to punish them for their infidel ways. I've lived in MAlaysia. They are some of the friendly, happy people on Earth.

Now, if terrorists are involved, maybe it was because they figured it was an easier target to take for something more nefarious. IF so, then wouldn't it be even easier to just "borrow" one from an airport in the Middle East instead of involving World attention?

Well, yeah, but no one knew it was missing when Button slipped the formation buttonhole and passed over on his way to "landing" atop the Colorado mountain. I grew up with hogs at 100 agl all the time. After awhile, you really don't notice 'em much anymore, at least not in the sense of anything being particularly out of the ordinary.

I had a captain today insinuate that it was terrorism because "after all, it is a muslim nation."

I was going to say that people need to travel more...but the scary thing is they were one of our pilots that went to Vietnam for a while. I've heard some great things about Malaysia, would love to visit someday.

The longer it goes without anything, the more the imagination will create possible theories so here's mine. I think something went wrong maybe killing vital electronic systems and the O2 supply. They attempted to turn back but passed out and kept flying until they ran out of gas somewhere over the Indian Ocean.

Just my personal assumption, but when its all said and done, we may have another textbook example of mental illness gone tragically wrong.
