Live Webcast of 3407 sunshine hearing

So from what I understand, the fact the aircraft was in icing conditions had nothing to do with the end result?

Aerodynamically most likely not, they were so far into the stall that had the airplane been as clean as the day it rolled off the factory it would have been stalled. Icing played a factor where the ref speeds increase switch being on, which had it not been on and the shaker come on 20 knots earlier than when it would had come on with out the speed increase, the negative reaction from the captain may or may not have ever happened, and the low speed situation would have never reached the shaker.

This seems like the epitome of a swiss cheese model accident. All these factors lined up to create the accident. Ineffective captain leadership, with a potentially sub par pilot, rather large training issues, and a crew that was not operating at 100% all lined up on that fateful night to cause this.

PFJ?- translate, please?

Pay For Job.

Basically, you pay a company for the "privilege" of working for them. It's not a popular thing in the pilot community, for a number of reasons.

Re: Live NTSB Webcast about 3407

Who is this Robert Sumwalt guy? He is saying that he used to commute the day before and get a hotel on his own. Thats great, how much were you making compared to how much they made?

Saying a normal healthy guy doesnt need 11 hours of sleep to catch up after just saying if he has the chance he will sleep as long as he can. Contradict yourself much?

Re: Live NTSB Webcast about 3407

I've never listened to one of these before, so I'm pretty interested in how this is going. I'm disappointed that it seems like this has just turned into an argument between the Chairlady and Sumwalt.

I didn't get to a computer until an hour ago. Interesting so far. It's good to see them really discussing the fatigue issue. The stuff from earlier will be available on archive right?

I'm sure there will be transcripts of all of it.

He and Capt. Cox just said that they were ex-USAirways.

Does anyone else think that Deborah Hersman is looking pretty hott?

Dammit - I was going to post that earlier and thought I would go straight to hell. Glad to see it wasn't just me!

They're reading the conclusions now - Sumwalt strikes me as a DPE - a tough one!

You know...she goes to school, works hard, serves the NTSB on numerous accidents and is finally elevated to Chair...and all you two can talk about is how hot she is...and then you don't post a picture. Shame.

Maybe you should have watched it yourself. Sheesh.

Let the record show that she is in fact hot...

But was not always...

Interesting...they decided not to include fatigue as a contributing factor. I wonder how that will help/hurt the push for better work rules at the airlines?
